King Art have shared a full Dawn of War IV Battlefield Report, showcasing a 1v1 multiplayer battle between Space Marines and Orks in their upcoming RTS. Check it out:
It’s a great look at the next Dawn of War game, highlighting plenty of the faction differences atop the familiar battlefield control game style of the franchise. In particular, Senior Game Designer Elliott Verbiest looks to use the Ork ability to sprawl across the map and build anywhere to gain territory and control it early on, before Creative Director Jan Theysen shows the true strengths of the Space Marines with shock and awe tactics to drop units from reserves to encircle enemies, deliver bombing runs and more.
With two and a half months to go before release on 17th September, it’s looking pretty great.
This is just two of the four factions that will feature in the full game, with the Space Marines (both Blood Ravens and Dark Angels in the campaign) and Orks joined by the Adeptus Mechanicus and Necrons also embroiled in the battle for the planet Kronus. King Art has big plans for the game going forward, with a grand Conquest Mode, mission editor and two story expansions to bookend the story all on the year one roadmap.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV has been entrusted to Iron Harvest developer King Art Games and publisher Deep Silver. It’s a new leaf for the franchise, which was created by Relic Entertainment way back in 2004 and defined a new style of real time strategy with less focus on resource gathering and base building, and more on controlling the map and battlefield. Dawn of War enjoyed a good few expansions before Dawn of War 2 explored a more tactical approach in 2009, and Dawn of War 3 sought to blend them all together.
The interest in having King Art work on Dawn of War IV was organised by Games Workshop some time before Iron Harvest’s release in 2020, with Relic busy on other projects at that time. Since then, Relic has gone independent with an investor buyout in 2024, released a remastered version of the original Dawn of War last August.
