In June, Microsoft announced price increases in the US for the Xbox range, taking effect on August 1. We now know the cost of the price increases in Europe, and they are not pretty.
As spotted on ResetEra, the new pricing range adds €200 /£170 to the 1TB consoles, while the 512GB models are going up by €150 /£130.
In Europe the prices look like this:
- 512GB Xbox Series S was 349.99€ now 499.99€
- 1TB Xbox Series S was 399.99€ now 599.99€
- 1TB Xbox Series X Digital was 549.99€ now 749.99€
- 1TB Xbox Series X Disc was 599.99€ now 799.99€
And here are the UK price rises:
- 512GB Xbox Series S was £299.99 now £429.99
- 1TB Xbox Series S was £349.99 now £519.99
- 1TB Xbox Series X Digital was £449.99 now £619.99
- 1TB Xbox Series X Disc was £499.99 now £669.99
The Xbox Series S launched in the UK at £249, so is now £181 more expensive than when it first hit the shelves, and the new price is just £20 cheaper than a launch-day Series X.
For the US, the prices are as follows,
- 512GB Xbox Series S was $399.99 now $499.99
- 1TB Xbox Series S was $449.99 now $599.99
- 1TB Xbox Series X Digital was $599.99 now $749.99
- 1TB Xbox Series X Disc was $649.99 now $799.99
Given the current discourse, I should point out that the only consoles with physical disc drives are also the most expensive to purchase.
This all follows price increases last year and Xbox CEO Asha Sharma explaining how far SSD and memory prices have increased, going up by more than 2.5x, and with the company expecting them to double again over the next 18 months. This is forcing them to rethink their plans for the next generation.
She has also outlined four priorities for the company after Xbox posted a loss for the first time since they bought Activision Blizzard.
- “CORE: Strengthen our platform, led by console”
- “CONTENT: Grow great games into global franchises”
- “CREATION: Make Minecraft the world’s creator platform”
- “CONNECTION: Extend the worlds that fans love”
