And now it’s silly season. This week has seen the launch The Blood of Dawnwalker, Moonlighter 2, Orbitals, Onimusha: Way of the Sword and so, so much more, and it’s just the start of the month!
Of those, I played through Orbitals with Dom for our review, and enjoyed our time with it even if not quite hitting the sensational heights of It Takes Two. I juggled that with a little bit of Final Fantasy Resonance for our preview, and clawing my way through some of our Gamescom write ups. And for fun? Well, I decided to roll back the clock and play A Plague Tale: Innocence, because I only ever got half way through that one.
Nic wrapped up our review of Onimusha: Way of the Sword earlier this week, and thoroughly enjoyed it, but for the English language voice acting. Dom had less of an issue with this side of things, as he tested the game on Switch 2, finding another impressive Capcom production for the handheld… which even has a 30fps frame cap for once!
Aran chimed in to say that he’s been playing Star Wars: Zero Company for our review, and while it’s going to be written up soon enough, he’s been running into some technical issues that ought to be patched.
The other big reviewer of the week is Jim, who’s been “getting my claws into Marvel’s Wolverine for review” which will be cropping up on the site soon enough. He’s also gone back and finished The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, “which felt good after failing to complete a playthrough almost 15 years ago.
It was a somewhat miserable time for Jason, as not only did he have to play a co-op game with me, but it was Serious Sam: Shatterverse, which whiffed on what could have been a great thematic and genre combo. Thankfully he’s also been playing Grim Dawn and enjoying levelling up in that.
Somehow, Laura and Ade haven’t realised that it’s Christmas that’s meant to turn up earlier every year and not Halloween. So they’ve started early on the spooky games and a playthrough of Reanimal – “Though we’ve been absolutely failing at all the stealth sections we’re starting to learn to find a good hiding spot rather than trying to escape.”
It’s been a busy week for Gamoc, who’s had Luminas Parasite Reign, Deadlock Station, and Fractured Worlds on the go for review. He’s also been enjoying not one, but two vampire games, continuing to play The Blood of Dawnwalker and a bit of Vampire Survivors on the side.
Tuff has juggled Aliens Fireteam 2, MGS4, and The Alters. He says, “The latter is almost brilliant and I almost heartily agree with our 9/10 review. Almost. My one issue – and it’s a big one – is I’m near the end of Act 2 and there is an optional task suggesting the Alters will rebel. OPTIONAL. So I focussed on the main tasks. And then I ended the day as per normal and there is a five second cut scene and it says ‘The Alters rebelled’ and it’s game over. No chance to fix the issue, nothing, game over. This should have been a main task. As I was focussed on other things I have go back around four or five hours of gameplay to find a point where I can do the rebellion task. This is incredibly annoying and I have not done it. Yet.”
Miguel’s been playing a bit of Captain Tsubasa 2, a little bit of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and a pinch of Zenless Zone Zero.
And we’ll finish things off with Steve, who’s finished “the excellent Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy which had some fantastic emotional highs and tied into the wider series far more than I was expecting.” He’s since moved on to The Blood of Dawnwalker, but run into some pesky controller issues on PC – reportedly now patched – and is eyeing up Onimusha for the weekend ahead.
