Sora and the gang have hopped out of the Battle Bus and into Fortnite as the Kingdom Hearts crossover event has arrived!
Tapping into the current Fortnite Override event, two new Kingdom Hearts Overrides will spawn underneath the heart-shaped moon that now hangs over the island.
- Recovery Override (Squad & Match-Wide): Eliminating a player with any weapon drops healing orbs.
- Level Up Override (Squad): Spawns a Mythic Kingdom Key for each squad member at their current location.
That Kingdom Key can unleash a flurry of melee attacks and create shocking bolts to strike down your enemies. There’s also the Sea Sale Ice Cream, which will restore both health and shields.
This weekend, the Kingdom Hearts Power Hours will see all players spawn into the game wielding the Kingdom Key and a Sea Salt Ice Cream – running on Saturday 19th September from 7 to 9PM UK time and then in the wee hours of 2 to 4AM on Sunday morning.
Available right now, though, are Sora, Riku, Kairi, or Roxas Outfits in the Fortnite Shop, e once coming with a Back Bling, Pickaxe, and LEGO Fortnite style.
I can’t think off the top of my head another time where a multiverse IP has been added to the aspiring multiverse of Fortnite, though this Kingdom Hearts event is really focussed on the original characters and creations for Square Enix’s mind-bogglingly complicated RPG. For all the characters and IPs that Disney have, they’ve got their own collaborations with Epic for Marvel characters, Star Wars and other Disney gaming projects.
The timing of this collab does make sense for Square Enix, though, They are obviously building up towards the release of Kingdom Hearts 4, which is currently expected to release in late 2027, but which is getting more and more airtime and reveals as we get closer.
