Darksiders 2 Confirmed; Coming 2012

Lost among the noise of Portal 2, Twisted Metal and all of the other headline grabbing announcements of E3, THQ have confirmed that a sequel to cult-hit Darksiders is officially coming in 2012. It’s not the first time we’ve got wind of a follow-up to the apocalyptic Zelda-esque fantasy romp, with artist Joe Madureira confirming that the remaining Horsemen have already been designed and would feature in any possible sequels if the first game sold well. Sell well it did – especially for a new IP – with Darksiders performing well beyond original expectations. Speaking at E3, THQ VP Danny Bilson said:

“Darksiders 2 is coming. We’ve green lit that. It’s well into production now, it’s two years out from now.”

THQ also took the opportunity to officially confirm that Saints Row 3 was also in production.

  1. I don’t know why it was viewed to be average. I enjoyed it a lot actually.

    • It was a pleasant surprise. :)

    • Agreed! A good game that maybe just came out at the wrong time of year (same time as Bayonetta, GOW3 & Dante’s)

  2. Yaztee made my view on the entire concept of the game

  3. 2012 …. damn i really liked this game, shame the world will end before i platinum it :|

    • You know why won’t the world end in 2012? ‘Cause I got a can of tuna that expires in 2013

  4. Will be proceeding with caution this time. Didn’t enjoy the first one.

  5. Sweet! Now all we need is a sequel to Legacy of Kain and my life will be complete!

  6. Excellent, still loving the original, I just wish people (I’m looking at you Kovacs) would stop comparing it to Zelda and God of War.

    • Oh, and did THQ happen to mention a release date for Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine?

    • I’ve never compared it to God of War. Zelda? Yes, because there are similarities. Trust me, there are worse things than being compared to Zelda.

  7. Cult-hit? Really?

    • Yes. Really. It’s got some avid followers and it’s not a big game. That’s cult in my book.

      • Fair enough. I’ve not played it myself; it seemed to get lost amongst Dante’s Inferno and GoW III.

  8. need to play the first one first

  9. Awesome, I loved (and platinumed) the first. Kinda disappointed we need to wait until 2012, but at least that means they’re not just pumping out a sequel just for the hell of it.

  10. 4 DarkSider games,1 every 2 years.
    Money milkers.
