PSP Firmware 6.30 Live

The PS3 wasn’t the only Sony console to receive a firmware update today. Firmware 6.30 is now live for the PSP and PSPgo. There is only one key difference I have found so far: at long last you can finally sort your games by format which should make locating your games a little easier.

What stands out is the list of formats available. As you would expect there are folders for PSP games, minis and PlayStation games but there are also two other folders, PCEngine and NEOGEO. PCEngine is the Japanese name for TurboGrafx-16.

Games for both of these formats have been available on the Japanese store for a while now. The fact they now appear on a worldwide update may suggest we could be seeing some retro games heading to the US and Europe in the near future.

  1. Yeah that is the only thing they mentioned but I think I read somewhere that it also had something to do with PS+?

  2. For a .3, should it not have more features?

  3. When will they understand we want to organise things alphabetically? Isn’t that just logical, or is it just me?

    • It’s not just you. I don’t know why the PSP doesn’t have the same grouping options as the ps3 where you enter you own folder names.

I have 40-50 games on my PSPgo now and it’s becoming a bit of a pain

      • Thinking about it you can’t organise everything alphabetically on PS3. Games you definately can’t, but other media you can, if I remember rightly.

I’m not joking when I say this; is the lack of alphabetical ordering a Japanese thing? I don’t know how the kanji characters work, but I would assume there’s a similar organisational scheme to the alphabet. Forgive my western ignorance of everything outside of England :P

  4. CASTLEVANIA!!!!! I have Rondo of Blood on the Wii meaning it would be an great addition to the store and the world.
Now if only they had done this years ago…

  5. are these surprises like Easter eggs? You know intentional?

  6. Neo Geo Neo Geo – 4 Bright Buttons & 2 Joysticks!

  7. It’s been a while since I had a PSP, so i’m somewhat out of touch when it comes to firmware updates and features. Can you have separate users now like on PS3? Not all games have multi-slot saves which made it difficult for my wife and I to play the same games.

  8. my PSP won’t save the new GAME folder views, always defaults back to the original view.

  9. There was a neo geo (I think) game back when I was a lad that was a top down multi directional scrolling shooter, where you ran about and hijacked cars and had gun fights and stuff. Most importantly it was the first game (asides cabal) which featured a roll button for use mid-gunfight in a john woo stylee. If anyone can tell me what it was I’d be very happy. I’d be even happier if it was subsequently released on PSN.

  10. The PSP desperatly needs a new way of organising folders and files. Its annoying when it takes ages just to find a song when your scrolling though all your music files.
