Darkspore & Alice Announced

British weather, gotta love it. It’s 28 degrees central in London today, five months ago it was minus ten and the city was paralyzed with snow drifts. It was nice of EA to produce some financial reports back in February to keep me amused as I shivered, one of which revealed Spore would be coming to consoles.

EA have now announced Darkspore for the PC but make no mention of consoles, so why am I writing this up? Well, all the other titles on the financial report have been announced including a console version of The Sims so it is a good bet that that final title, “Spore Title TBA” for PS3 and XBox is going to be Darkspore. I could be terribly wrong and if it turns out to be ‘Lego Spore’ or ‘Rock Band Spore’ I apologise in advance and promise to eat one of my awesomely fashionable hats.

Enough  waffle, what is the game like? Well it is a Spore inspired RPG. Lucy Bradshaw, General Manager of Maxis Studio explains,

“Darkspore is inspired in part by the award-winning creature editor tech of Spore, but also in large part from the team’s own passion for gaming and prior experience. The team has combined these inspirations to produce a unique take on the action RPG genre.”

In other news the sequel to cult PC title ‘American McGee’s Alice’ is definitely coming to our favourite consoles, assuming your favourites are XBox and PS3 not the Atari 2600. The game sees Alice (off of Books) traveling through a ‘corrupted and shattered’ Wonderland. Sounds like my journey in to work.

“Alice is a classic fiction, infinitely rich with memorable characters, places and experiences,” McGee stated. “Our approach to Alice: Madness Returns takes this colourful world and reinvents it with psychotic personalities and pervasive insanity. We can’t wait to share our vision with Alice in Wonderland fans and gamers around the world.”

Both games are scheduled for 2011 although as previously mentioned only ‘Alice: Madness Returns’ has been confirmed for consoles. But Darkspore will be, else Electronic Arts owe me a new hat.

  1. Shame they couldn’t get the ‘Alice’ game out this year really, as it could have fed off of the hype of the release of the new disney movie.

  2. look forward to the new Alice game. I didn’t play the original McGee Alice, but it looked like it was an interesting take on it (very dark).
This teaser looks equally dark and mysterious, particularly with the falling out teeth, which in dream world indicates the keeping of big and burdensome secrets, apparently.

Also helps that I quite enjoy the Wonderland book, which is suitably bonkers.
