Nintendo has announced the Japanese launch date and price for the hotly anticipated 3DS. The new handheld – and its much touted 3D display – will go on sale on February 26th for ¥25,000, which equates to about £190 using a currency converter. The colours available are “Aqua Blue” and “Cosmos Black”.
It was mentioned that the 3DS would be hitting our shores sometime in March. Exact date and price to be confirmed by Nintendo Europe.

That’s a nice looking bit of kit. I may trade my psp in for one of those, depends what the lauch titles are like.
MegaBonez
£190? WOW! I’d buy one at that price without a doubt!
Dan Lee
Me too lol – they had me at ‘hello’ :op
Roger
Optimistically I reckon it will stay at £190 but knowing Nintendo of Europe it might just have a ‘price hike’ since they love us so much!
Apnomis
Japanese prices of both Sony and Nintendo hardware is often a lot cheaper in their home Country – if you’re lucky it will be £199, if they want to cash in on the glassless 3D concept it will be £250…
Dan Lee
Im hoping Nintendo took note of how well the £250 price tag of the PSPgo went down with consumers (not at all!). I really hope the 3DS is no more than £225.
Danza Di Fuoco E Ghiaccio
It does seem likely that it would be £200+

i’ll wait till specs are revealed about the psp2
but seriously legend of ocarina? i loved that game

It’s around what I thought (or hoped) it might be. Looking forward to this very much.
Danza Di Fuoco E Ghiaccio
Wow that would be inexpensive.. I’m interested but looking at the DS’s libary I hope there isn’t any bad 3rd party games.
Dan Lee
So far its getting Metal Gear, Resi, Street Fighter and Mega Man games so its looking good.

3D imagery isn’t suitable for under 7’s so they won’t be rushing release all the ‘Imagine’ style games.
Its odd that Nintendo has chosen to cut themselves off from half their core market in this way, although if the games do come they’ll just advise parents to turn the 3D slider down
Dan Lee
Plus the fact the unders sevens still have the DS to use as well. Nintendo is set to pretty much dominate the handheld scene (even more so than usual).

No orange or purple?

Or octarine?
kevatron400
Wait that was greenish-purple. Move along, nothing to see here.
bunimomike
Does no one think it’s really pricey?
masoke
I do a little. I love the DS (I’ve had all three versions so far, the last two on launch), but £200+ changes it from something I could sneak past the wife, and turns it into a slightly more major purchase.

If it’s £200 or less then no I think its right for a product launch, if its over £200 which it invariably will be once you add on VAT, then it’s dear enough for me to wait it out until there’s a hardware revision and a pricedrop… 3DSi or something
bunimomike
Sorry for asking naive questions but what did it’s predecessor launch for? (ignoring inflation, deals, etc).
Dan Lee
I think it was £130
cc_star
Yeah think it was £129, although I have £149 in my head for some reason – perhaps that what I bought my PSP for… and the later PSPgo came out for £249 so maybe the 3DS will be £229 using my ultra-scientific method of guessing.
jimmy-google
i’ve seen one report so far claiming the 3ds will launch for 299 in the states. Haven’t seen any other prices yet
jimmy-google
Checked it and and apparently it launched at £100 in the UK, €150 in Europe, $150 in the US and ¥15,000 in Japan.
Based on the 3DS price of ¥15,000 that would make it about £170 in the UK, $250 in the US and €250 in Europe. Though with the pound so poor that the UK price will almost certainly be a lot closer to the EU one.
Cadabena
Since then the pound has plummeted though. I remember the PSP launch being 18,000 Yen, which at the time equated just £107.
Charmed_Fanatic
I do, will not be getting it until a price reduction
cc_star
Nintendo don’t have a track record of price drops… odd because if they dropped the Wii from £179 to £129 (so it was available for around £99-£129) the other consoles wouldn’t get a look-in again
BalramRules
i nvr liked da 3ds from da start, just wait till u see how poor da quality of da 3d iz, i bet it’ll wear off with a minute
Owendarko
Cannot wait for this! Looks incredible..the launch line-up is already stellar! Kinda pleased it’s out march 2010 cause it’ll give me time to save!
jimmy-google
The Independent is now claimimg the 3DS will be $299 / €220 but I can’t find anything official to confirm it.
