Bungie Copyright Possible Game Titles

Though reportedly retired, famed domain-sniffer Supererogatory (or someone pretending to be Supererogatory) appears to have popped up on Twitter to do what he does best – hunt down new game titles after they’ve been registered by sneaky publishers and developers.

Case in point, and registered back in July of 2010, it looks like Bungie have something in the pipeline with a familiar sci-fi feel. Multiple domains for URLs entitled DeadOrbit, NewMonarchy, SevenSeraphs, and Osiris were filed by the developer with the US Copyright Office last year.

If you’re interested, Osiris was the Egyptian god of the underworld and judge of the dead; husband to his sister Isis; father or brother of Horus. A seraph (or seraphim) is an angel of the first order. Holy arse-kickers, basically. The names are registered under the “artwork” category but they can be used in “promotion and marketing like logos.”

Of course, this could be all smoke and mirrors and amount to nothing but a hill of dead Spartans, but you never know. You may have just read the name of what could be the next Halo. Stranger things have happened.

  1. I’d pick SevenSeraphs and NewMonarchy as potential ARG titles. Could see Dead Orbit as a possible game title, but merely because it’s the best of the bunch.

    • You know your Christmas Avatar works like Christmas decorations. If you don’t take it down by the 6th you have to keep it up all year.

    • LOL! Zing!
      :)

  2. dead orbit sounds too much like dead space to me, newMonarch and sevenSeraphs sound slightly odd (just seraph sounds better to me). So I pick Osiris as the better name, as long as the game is not like Stargate… But I have a feeling it’s not gonna be called any of these names, just a hunch.

  3. I think they’re all good. Osiris is my favourite but really only because I’m a fan of Egyptology. Just a quick note though; how can someone be the husband and sister of somebody else?

    • The Egyptians were trailblazers in the field of sexual reorientation surgery?

As mentioned below, Osiris married his sister. He also was killed (by their brother Set), resurrected for the one purpose of impregnating his wife/sis who then gave birth to Horus who many consider as the reincarnation of Osiris.

So, technically, Isis was his wife, sister AND mother. And he was his own son.

      *mind … blown.*

  4. I misread the tagline as one of the games being called “AwesomeSauce” -disappointed now! :)
Also a fan of Egyptian mythology so I’m interested in this too.
As for the brother/husband thing, Egyptian gods got up to all sorts, lol

  5. I would pre-order AwesomeSauce if it were ever made. Heck, I’d buy two :P

  6. Hmmmm… very interesting. Just thinking about the Osiris one brings forth some nifty imaginary screenshots. I love all of that Egyptian mythology and history… so I’ll certainly be watching for more information on that one. We shall see. :)

  7. I’m hoping this is a resurrection of Phoenix (ha!) or Breach as it was also codenamed. There was a single sliver of concept art which some speculated way back when was for this, and it was some rather nifty medieval knight type thing fighting off hordes… I’ll have to dig it up, because it was very cool looking.

Really none of the titles sound like the next big thing, and SevenSeraphs just looks like a nice fan service as Bungie lead us off on a merry goose chase.

    Damn them!

  8. All smoke and mirrors for a new Marathon
