Our friends over at eLhabib have just let us know that the next PS3 Firmware update will be between the 13th and the 19th of October. Basically, at some point next week. There should also be another PSP update around the same time.
Smashing.

I would have thought one of the features would enable PSP Plus

I thought this was the one that was going to launch simultaneously with Home?

If there is no increased stability for undisclosed titles I’m going to be really pissed off.

@thefamouskevin they debunked that rumor a few weeks ago. Expect this first then the open beta release.

In which case we’ll probably see not much in this, as it will be behind the scenes stuff for Home?
I can’t imagine ever using a screen capture feature.

hope its home beta plus that screen grabbing would be very helpful

I’m sure I read a rumour about multiple simultaneous PSN logins on a single PS3. This is definitely needed for multiplayer games with online scoreboards (LBP being the obvious example).
It’d also make Sofa v Sofa in Buzz work a hell of a lot better.

I suspect 2.5 will contain some good things.. not including the screen grabbing.. but I don’t think it will be home.. that may come a few weeks later.. what I would really like to see is you-tube integration and better flash support, but I’m not going to go onto every forum and tell everyone how disappointed I am if I don’t get it.. I will instead appreciate the ‘FREE’ update and acknowledge that Sony know what they are doing.. that is unless its a dodgy update and then they bring out another one a few days later to fix it!!

BBC iPlayer integration? Weren’t we promised that about a year ago? It must be due soon.
whole-number updates are only for feature additions aren’t they? If that’s the case then is a screen grabs feature really enough to warrant a whole firmware upgrade? I would think it’ll have to include something else.
Personally I think screen grabs will be really useful. Not for me but for sites like TSA and others (who cares about the others?) to show images of stuff without having to take a photo.
Oh and credit to thefamouskevin for this:
“If there is no increased stability for undisclosed titles I’m going to be really pissed off.”
Thats funny.

Didn’t the PS3 already have the screen-grab compatibility?
All you needed was a keyboard that had a PRNT SCRN button.

I think this 2.50 FW update is to support the new Socom headset that is out on Oct 14th as well (they mentioned a while back on the Sony blog that an update was required for the headset) as well as a fix for a bug in Home they had been stating earlier…(it may also include the screen capture some others mentioned, I think I read that somewhere too).
