Sometimes you read things and think “that shouldn’t be there”, like this BBC article on LittleBigPlanet. It reads fine (in fact it’s quite a good read) but this bit stands out like a sore thumb: “Even before the game has hit the shops, the team are already at work on a sequel.”
The article goes on: “LittleBigPlanet has big potential. Right now it is just a game but the firm, with Sony, are in talks to turn it into a franchise that could mean spin offs including comics, cartoons, and action figures as well as a publishing platform itself for other brands’ content.”
A sequel? Already? Is this really the case or is this the BBC getting confused with downloadable content?

First person view was talked about by the developers, maybe instead of LBP2 it will be FPLBP, who knows…

I haven’t played the original yet, but from the reviews that have been coming in I wouldn’t be surprised if MM just go for the “more of the same, just bigger” approach.
Hey, it seems to be working for Microsoft coughGearsofWar2cough.
Who needs innovation when there’s Benjamins to be made, eh?

I’ve played it, and that’s the only thing I can think of to do with it that won’t totally screw up the game.

Why can’t they just do expansions, content packs, that kind of thing? A sequel isn’t necessary unless it takes 3 years to make, which it undoubtedly will, so this entire comment has been rendered useless.
Oh well.

Well why not. I mean as long as it take’s to create a game and MM does not have a huge developement team what like 30 people. I see this as just getting a jump start. As long as they don’t release it in just a year. I’d expect a new one Christmas 2010. Which is reasonable like Resistance or Motorstorm. So I am fine with this news. I do expect DL content still also for the first one, but starting early not really a problem.

…and maybe thy’ll have enough time to deeply check the soundtrack before releasing the game

Comics and cartoons? Anyone else thinking what im thinking (apart from ooh this song’s from LBP (My Patch – Jim Noir))… the adventurers of sackboy… voiced (for just the cartoon obviously) by that Australian man.
Ooooh and the episodes could resemble some of the best user generated levels.

I hope they’re just taking the SingStar route. i.e. a sequel is there to get more shelf space in shops, it will have some extra features that are available through a free patch to anyone owning LBP 1 and have new MM-created levels that LBP 1 owners can purchase as packs from the store.
It can’t be that radical, because all the user generated content would be out of date, and people might be far less likely to put in hours in Vol. 2 if they think Vol. 3 is around the corner.

This would be a great way to do LBP sequels. The user-generated content should definitely be available in newer versions of the game.
But I think some PSP-LBP will be next.
I just hope they don’t overdo with the spin-offs.

I can’t wait for this. Rather bored of the first one now and about time for a sequel!

LBP has gone off the boil for me
The delay has caused me to think twice about buying now, mainly because I haven’t got time to play the other games I’ve brought/am going to buy
MM need to work on finding more gaming hours in a day

Don’t think twice. It’s 200% worth buying. Of that’s not enough, then it’s 300% worth buying. It meets all the over-hyped expectations, easily.
