Apparently a few people are having PSN sign-out issues with the lovely Battle Cars PSN game. We’ve not noticed it ourselves, but it’s clearly enough of an issue for Corey at Psyonix to mention that Firmware 2.70 should go some way to fix it. “Sony mentioned a bug they fixed with the next system software update (2.7.0) that might resolve these issues,” he says, which Psyonix say will “drop later this month.” They go on to say that 2.70 will “contain lots of fun new fixes. I’m excited about this one, lots of new stuff.”
So are we.

I saw this earlier and thought “nah this story seems a little low on facts and truth” so I left it. Damn.

There’s been lots of rumours of things that will be included in this firmware release, so if it just turns out to be a one that just fixes a few bugs and other small things then it will be a bit of a let down.

Awesome news. Hopefully it will include cross-game chat and you can play your own music while in any game.

“and you can play your own music while in any game”
that will never happen. M$ have patented it.

Hey careful, ‘M$’ is fanboy speak!
Also, how can Microsoft get away with patenting playing music while in any game, I was doing that back on the NES. I played my ghetto blaster all day while on different games, doing my homework and annoying my sister.
I’m joking, I never did my homework.

This update will sounds to good to be true! I could probably bet anyone that with this new Firmware, there will be some “freeze” issues like 2.40

I get the feeling it will just be a small bug update for one game, or two. Nothing special.

I’ve seen a lot of rumours about this latest update and it seems too good to be true.
If half of them are true then it would probably be called 3.00 to make a bug fuss about it.
However Sony have stated in the past that a x.x0 update will always contain new features, ie, 2.50, 2.60

if it is a 2.7 and not 2.6345387 then I suppose it’s possible that there may be something good in there.
I’m just not sure though.

Nah. Being an x.x0 update it should at least have something new, or “fun” as the original story hints at.
Bug fixes only are normally x.x1, x.x2 etc…

Hopefully that bloody battery indicator will be MOVED!

What’s the problem with the battery indicator? I know it’s in the same place as the date/time, but… seriously? Is it really that much of a problem?
If it ever gets moved, there’ll only be negative comments… “Finally! The beeping beeps actually listened to my beeping beep! A bit beeping late now wasn’t it! beeping Sony. Too beeping late!”
It may be a harsh comment, but isn’t this the truth?

It’s lazy, it wouldn’t take anything to move it but having it obscure another part of the layout is just incredibly lazy or immature design and sticking to it rather than fixing it is embarrassing.
In the big scheme it won’t cure cancer or solve the middle-eastern conflict but in terms of an electronics company who are trading on their ability to project an image it is absolutely unforgivable.

Well it doesn’t matter when I’m just in the XMB but when I’m in-game and want to check the time, I have to press the PS button which pops the bloody indicator up and in the way of the time.

You know what I want? A game library.
How it would work is the PS3 automatically adds any full game (disc or PSN) you play to a list then whenever you connect to the network it checks the list for any game updates and lets you know.
You can also go in and manually check for updates or remove games you no longer have etc.
This way you could update games when it’s convenient and not when you decide to have a quick 10 minute play only to find you need a 20 minute patch first!

I really do hope this adds some new stuff. LIke that other XMB we saw? Failing that, just ingame chat!
Oh and are some new avatars too hard to ask for?

I bet in-game chat would work like:
“Each individual game will need to be patched for this option to work. Although the option is now available to developers, there are currently no games that support in-game chat. Check back soon for updates.”

I seriously wonder how cross game chat will work.
Most games have specific cool features tailor made for the game. Like MGO. When you throw chaff grenade near people who use the mic, they will be unable to talk to their team. A great idea, but hardly used I guess.
And in Killzone, hearing your team mates as a proximity thing. Where does that come into it?

You can talk to people on the other team in proximity as well. Or maybe that was just because they were on my friend’s list…
All of this talk of an update with new features get’s me so excited!

i’m a little confused.. (usual state i know.. BUT!)
How come Sony needs to release an update to fix Battle cars?. Is it because the devs are too lazy to patch it and fix the network errors that happen so often. the stuttering every other match is annoying but the pop up network problem screen that blocks the view is even worse!
They seem to ignore or mock people who have paid for it and expect it to work in their own forums.
Come on Psyonix Warhawk can handle 32 players and personally I have never experienced lag! a game that has jeeps planes (sorry warhawks) tanks!, people… jet packs… pick ups. and S.R.A.B.C has 8 cars, a ball and 2 goals. I brought this expecting it to be supersonic online as well as off!! (1 on 1 seems ok! Griffster and i have had some awesome matches!)
rant over.. need to load up COD4 and kill my friends (sorry in advance).. calms the nerves.
