Atari’s European arm is about to close, says MCV this lunch time. Namco Bandai will move in to complete its acquisition of Atari, safely housing, but rebadging, all the current sales and marketing staff who will be transferred to the newly formed Distribution Partners. Namco Bandai bought a third share in Atari’s European business last year, but looks set to buy the remaining two thirds from Infogrames next month.
“We believe that Distribution Partners will become a wholly-owned Namco Bandai games company soon, but this process requires time and we will comment further when we have an anticipated closing date,” said Atari’s European marketing boss David Miller this week. The US division of Atari will remain active, and thus become the firm’s single headquarters. All this backs up our recent Atari E3 story and the news that Sony will publish Ghostbusters in Europe.
