Sony have just announced that Firmware V2.76 will be with us shortly, unfortunately the usual popular feature requests will have to wait until next time… or the time after that, as the list of enhancements isn’t the most extensive on offer, see the below for the full details:
Yep, that is the list in its entirety. We aren’t sure exactly which titles are affected, or whether they’re even released yet. Obviously Sony have never said any of the requested stuff is coming soon, so there’s no need to be disappointed, enhanced stability is a good thing, right.

Oh dear Sony. Once again you manage to disappoint me and no doubt other loyal followers of the Japanese patient.

Na seriously though, if it stops games from crashing and makes everything go along a little quicker and smoother then its a good update, no matter how little new features there are

LOL! Trust Sony to give us what we didn’t ask us for… (except for a PS3) :p xD

You mean THIS is what I just got booted out of a game of HAWX for?
Screw you, Sony.

I think that the guys at Penny Arcade pinned what the PS3 firmwares are right on the head. This is of course 2.7 with the introduction of in-game text chat. I laughed for ages thinking of this comic and this article reminded of it.

People always have trouble. Something goes wrong, and it MUST be the new firmware that broke it

I had so much problems with the last one… Had to change my HDD to install it. I feared the day of a new FW update and now it is.

Why do the updates have to be some amazing new feature? I mean, I would like cross game chat etc as much as anyone but firmware updates are supposed to be bug fixes and enhancements and I am happy as long as they keep doing that.
It’s yet another case of fans feeling like they are owed something and getting all moody when it doesn’t come straight away.

Absolutely. Why should anyone be disappointed with a some bugfixes. Should mean that some people will get more enjoyment and less frustration from their PS3. Like cc said in the post, there’s no need to be disappointed.

I think the issue is more the frequency we get the updates. If the bug fixes are minor, then why can’t they be rolled in to the next X.X0 update?

The 0.0x releases just fix bugs or security holes. I wonder if this might be a patch for PSP remote play (which has been hacked recently).
If SCE stick to their three month release schedule for the proper updates (as they’ve been doing for about a year now) we’ll next see some new features in July.

I’m tempted to believe if they don’t specify, that it’s about closing loopholes or exploits, perhaps someone worked out how to get a game or two installed to the HDD, like happened in its infancy.

agreed cc_star!, compared to the way that the PSP’s were hacked so quickly. I like think Sony’s doing a great job at keeping the PS3 locked tight with these little updates and if they do improve stability it’s better for us all.
