I have a feeling these will be all over the internet in about 20 minutes, but as a sneaky heads up, here’s what some Chinese folk think the slim PS3 will look like. My Chinese is worse than my English, so I’ve no idea if these shots have already been debunked (the forum thread is 10 pages long) but regardless, if it’s a fake it’s a good one.

And yes, Sony has already said that they’re not planning on a PS3 redesign, but this wouldn’t be the first time that something appeared out of thin air at E3. There’s certainly room for the Blu-ray, the USB ports are around the back and the fan would have to be squished in somewhere, but heh, if it keeps the kids off the street…

Hmm, dunno about that – playing as much as we do for our console, I prefer something with a bit more ‘meat’ on it!
At least one USB port round the back would be an improvement IMO, so things like PlayTV, keyboards etc could be left plugged in permanently without wires trailing round the front.

I *need* more usb slots! I’ve only got the 2 on my 40gb model, and so i keep having to switch PS3Eye, Keyboard/mouse, control charger, GH/RB/SS peripherals, etc. I’m sure they do like USB hubs, but, y’know that’s research, and it’s much easier just to sit and complain.

I bought a USB hub and a USB switch. I use my wireless Mouse and Keyboard on my PS3 and my PC. Same thing with my extarnal HDD. I’m sure I’m having at least 4 miles of wires under my TV, with 1,5 mile of USB!!

Even if these were real they destroyed the looks of the thing.
Where is the shinyness?

If these are fake, they are the best fakes ever, the flatpack box looks perfect, as do all the bits of plastic, and the fact the worker is wearing anti-static gloves would indicate they are on an electronics production line, and the green mats may also be anti-static
Very plausable indeed.

Are you kidding? The font isn’t even correct!

I agree with CC, they are extremely good fakes.

I dunno.
It seems a little messed up to have the picture on the box be top-down, instead of from the front where it looks slim.
if they make something slim, they wanna show that it’s slim on the box

Errr…just looks like the top shell of a PS3 and the last picture is the bottom shell…
So it isn’t fake, It just isn’t real either

Yes, it looks like the top and bottom of the shell, but there are some differences to the current design. The top just having PS3 and not PlayStation3 in the spiderman font across it for starters. Then the curve between the drive and the very front of the top, where the memory card reader was on the originals. It does look as though it is a bit shallower too.

I’m guessing it’s one of those cheap chinese knock-offs that look a bit like something else and sell for a quarter of the price (anyone remember the Vii?).
The box is convincing, although I can’t imagine them changing the “PLAYSTATION 3″ Spider-Man font on the logos… Granted, Playstation became PSOne, but if I remember right, the slim PS2 kept the same angular PS2 logo…

It looks plausible, but it also looks weird and a bit silly in my opinion, so I hope it’s not real. It looks more like a squashed PS3 than a “slim” one, but maybe it looks better in real life.

‘Fancy’ isn’t a word I’d use, even for kitchen scales!

The box not saying PlayStation 3 on it is odd (only in small writing), but in it’s favour it is about the right time for 120GB HDDs to be cheaper to produce than 80GB.
I can’t see a WiFi logo on the box though ???

Seems odd that they even have a box. I’m pretty sure that part comes last.
If there is a box, then it would mean that this thing is just about ready to ship, no?

It seems odd that there is a box on an assembly line, surely you’d never have a box where they’re putting components together

lol.
are you guys feeling ok?
that’s as fake as an 9 bob note. everything about it is off.
the box design is shoddy.
the plastic is extremely cheap looking.
the PS3 typeface is wrong.
also, i know tech moves fast but there’s no way they could squeeze all of the ps3 + the power pack into a space that small.
i assume the power pack is inside the case cause that big arrowed hole on the left of the 4th pic looks like a kettle lead size hole.
its a cheap chinise rip off that probably has “263 fun happy unique playing games” built into it i reckon.

“PS3 typeface is wrong”…Yeah that kinda falls through, they can change the font if they want to.
Bt the rest, yeah

I reckon its a knockoff and they’re going to jam a slim PS2 inside it and flog it for 250quid, like deepmenace said the font is wrong and looks more like a rounded off PS2 logo. The base would more likely also have indented rectangles for the usual Sony serial number lables if it were real. Good story though!

But this one says PlayStation 3 clear as day on the bottom of the box under PS3. Seems a bit too blatant

No it doesn’t – it says “PlayStation-3″ – when did Sony ever hyphenate it?

I kinda agree it looks like a knock off. Everyone knows how hot the PS3 gets when its going at full whack, something that small hasnt got enough venting to cool the machine.
The logo isnt right tho. Its the PSP font isnt it? Sony have spent millions on getting the Playstaion 3 logo out there, they wouldnt change it. PS2 didnt chnage the logo when it came in slim n light did it?

Precious little venting, and I can’t see one end where they will be a slot for the removable HDD, no WiFi logo on the box either means that it hasn’t got WiFi built in or it’s not real.
The lack of vents including one for a fan is probably the biggest thing which will lean me towards fake, a PS3 will never run without a fan
