Show’s over, thanks to everyone that watched and commented along with our E3 LiveBlog from the event. Here’s the transcript:
thesixthaxis: Right, well, it’s working.
thesixthaxis: There’s a bit to go, by the way, 45 minutes…
thesixthaxis: Right, we’ll be liveblogging the E3 conference right here. Unlike all the others, it’ll be dead funny.
thesixthaxis: @joeybamboo: no, it’ll be a bit later for Home.
thesixthaxis: @gawge: check https://www.thesixthaxis.com/2009/06/01/where-to-watch-e3-this-year/
thesixthaxis: @jonny_bolton: yeah, but we’re short on time and Davs is hogging the admin panel.
thesixthaxis: Right, I can see your comments but I can only approve 25 of you, so I can’t be bothered. Maybe save your comments for the main post on the site instead, perhaps?
thesixthaxis: Ooh, just got my Uncharted 2 beta through. =D
thesixthaxis: Right, be back at 6.55…
thesixthaxis: Hello again.
thesixthaxis: Just checking someone at TSA Towers is taking notes for the post conference write-up.
thesixthaxis: Sounds like they’re on Skype having a ball. Sigh.
thesixthaxis: Ah, here we go.
thesixthaxis: Can’t believe it’s finally here. All that hype and rumour for this…
thesixthaxis: Ooh, two minutes to go.
thesixthaxis: Got some cool VT2009 treats to give away, by the way. Info on the site tomorrow.
thesixthaxis: This must be WipEout’s new soundtrack.
thesixthaxis: Holy Moley, another two minutes.
thesixthaxis: Apparently the PSP leak was unintentional. Heh, we’ll see.
thesixthaxis: And in case you’re just joining us, this isn’t a video feed, sorry. We can only live blog.
thesixthaxis: Phew. Let’s go.
thesixthaxis: Intro showing the current PlayStation range. All look fairly ‘fat’ to me.
thesixthaxis: Nice game montage, looks like we’ll be seeing lots from Uncharted and God of War, then.
thesixthaxis: Ugh, Home dancing.
thesixthaxis: It’s like an in-joke now, like the battery/clock thing.
thesixthaxis: So, here’s ol’ Jack.
thesixthaxis: People are clapping the fact that we all leak stuff.
thesixthaxis: How ironic.
thesixthaxis: 364 games coming out on PlayStation platforms this year.
thesixthaxis: Committed to groundbreaking innovation. Hopes are high, Jack
thesixthaxis: Right, so we’re getting stats. Let’s hope this bit doesn’t last too long.
thesixthaxis: This is like when Burnley walk out onto Turf Moor. Player name, woo, player name, woo.
thesixthaxis: Apparently the PS2 is doing well across America. That’s good to hear. Now show us Trico.
thesixthaxis: 10 millions PS3s sold last year. 22 million in total.
thesixthaxis: Here’s Evan from Naughty Dog. Talking about Uncharted 2.
thesixthaxis: Beta starts tonight.
thesixthaxis: Yeah, it looks spectacular. We’ve got beta tickets, so we’ll let you know how it is in the morning.
thesixthaxis: Uncharted actually sold over 2.6 million copies, that’s really good.
thesixthaxis: Not sure why our inFamous review didn’t get a mention earlier, btw. We’ll ask.
thesixthaxis: BTW, I’m assuming you’re all also watching a live video stream of this, for God’s sake don’t rely on this text chat.
thesixthaxis: Yeah, amazing demo. Sorry Microsoft, that’s already better than anything on Splinter Cell.
thesixthaxis: “Only on PlayStation” is something you’ll hear a lot of today. Next up is MAG.
thesixthaxis: Here’s Andy from Zipper.
thesixthaxis: We’re getting a 256 player live demo. This could be amazing.
thesixthaxis: Distant gunfire, seems like the squad based mechanics could really work.
thesixthaxis: Alright, we admit, MAG could be amazing. Visually not great, but the sense of scale is staggering.
thesixthaxis: Helicopters are coming in, which apparently act like spawn points. Everything is controlled by humans.
thesixthaxis: This has to come with headsets. Playable on the shop floor this E3.
thesixthaxis: Looks like they’re keeping with the name MAG though. Comes out this Autumn.
thesixthaxis: Ooh, portable. PSP Go time?
thesixthaxis: We can see where this is going.
thesixthaxis: Sold 15 million last year, nice
thesixthaxis: Few release dates, we’ll get them on the site later.
thesixthaxis: Lots of laughs at the Hannah Montana bundle. Yeah, you’ll buy it.
thesixthaxis: Here’s uncle Kaz.
thesixthaxis: He’s a happy man. He’s conforming to the jacket and shirt look in fashion just now at Sony.
thesixthaxis: I wonder how much this speech has changed since last weekend?
thesixthaxis: Ooh, “the worst kept secret of E3”. The PSP Go.
thesixthaxis: The 3D render makes it look gorgeous, I want one.
thesixthaxis: It’s actually tiny, Kaz is squishing it without even trying. It’s 40% smaller, apparently. We’ll rob him later and take the console.
thesixthaxis: Confirmed, then: 16gb, download game only, slide out feature, bluetooth, m2 for media.
thesixthaxis: No touch screen. You get that, TSA Towers?
thesixthaxis: New application for accessing the Store on your PC: Media Go. Will be used to transfer pics, music and movies (and games we assume) to the Go.
thesixthaxis: Sense Me, will analyse your music library and suggest music. Bit like Genius but without the arsey name.
thesixthaxis: PSP Devkits have been reduced in price by 80%. So we’ll get lots more games.
thesixthaxis: All titles from now onwards will be sold on both UMD and digitall. All.
thesixthaxis: Yeah, nice move. I like it. It’s out at the same price point of the old PSP. 249 euros.
thesixthaxis: Out October.
thesixthaxis: Sony’s video service now moved to the PSP too. Firmware update then?
thesixthaxis: Partnerships signed with lots of new providers – showtime, G4, E, TNA and lots of others coming to the Store.
thesixthaxis: Oooh, Polyphony Digital’s Kaz is here.
thesixthaxis: Presume we’re getting a GT game for the PSP soon then.
thesixthaxis: He looks nervous as hell.
thesixthaxis: GT PSP.
thesixthaxis: Wait, he has it on the Go. Now. Give it to me.
thesixthaxis: It’ll be a “full scale” GT, 60fps.
thesixthaxis: 800 cars, 35 tracks, 60 variations. Holy shit.
thesixthaxis: Races, time and draft trials, plus license mode.
thesixthaxis: This isn’t a shrunken down subset of the series. It’s a full GT game.
thesixthaxis: New features: ad hoc multiplayer races for up to 4 players.
thesixthaxis: Trading and sharing of cars between players.
thesixthaxis: This multiplayer sharing will be an important part of GT PSP.
thesixthaxis: The game will be available on the show floor for people to sample themselves.
thesixthaxis: So it’s no longer vapour ware. I’m impressed.
thesixthaxis: They’re now showing a video of the game.
thesixthaxis: Shame all this was leaked, but hey, still cool.
thesixthaxis: Looks astonishing.
thesixthaxis: Ooh, October 1st. Perfect bundle.
thesixthaxis: GT titles have sold over 50 million copies.
thesixthaxis: Metal Gear Solid news next…
thesixthaxis: Kojima’s back. Let’s get him.
thesixthaxis: Snake is coming back to the PSP. Peace Walker is real then. Sorry again, chaps.
thesixthaxis: Peace Walker will be the true sequel of the MGS franchise. Dig at Rising, perhaps.
thesixthaxis: Kojima is writing the script and producing it.
thesixthaxis: The guys behind MGS4 are behind the PSP game.
thesixthaxis: I like his t-shirt.
thesixthaxis: Trailer upcoming.
thesixthaxis: Yay, Snake is back.
thesixthaxis: You can’t beat Hayter. It’s him, right?
thesixthaxis: Set in Costa Rica.
thesixthaxis: It’s a prequel, then. Set in 1970s?
thesixthaxis: Could be fantastic. Surely this isn’t another launch title?
thesixthaxis: Great trailer.
thesixthaxis: Nice cardboard box gag.
thesixthaxis: Ah, 2010.
thesixthaxis: He hasn’t mentioned Rising, mind. Later, perhaps?
thesixthaxis: Now Jack’s back, talking about Resident Evil. The game will come to the PSP next year too. Great line-up, including LBP, Socom 3, Motorstorm.
thesixthaxis: Montage of 2009 PSP titles…
thesixthaxis: It’s some of the stuff from the leak. Sackboy looks delightful.
thesixthaxis: More shots of the Go. Shame there’s no 2nd analog, but we’ll survive.
thesixthaxis: We’ll get this stuff up on the site as soon as we can, btw.
thesixthaxis: We’ve got coverage of the Nintendo conference up, too: https://www.thesixthaxis.com/2009/06/02/nintendo-e3-2009-conference-round-up/
thesixthaxis: Right, back to Jack.
thesixthaxis: They’ve basically turned the PSP around from being dead on it’s arse to this.
thesixthaxis: 24 million registered users on the PSN. 475 bits downloaded.
thesixthaxis: 90 exclusive PSN titles, apparently. Huh?
thesixthaxis: Oh, 50 Ridge Racer 7 music tracks. I jest.
thesixthaxis: Final Fantasy VII hitting the PSN today, as we reported earlier.
thesixthaxis: Now he’s talking about Home. 100 virtual items coming to Home each month.
thesixthaxis: 100,000 units of the Capcom costumes sold.
thesixthaxis: 1.5 engagements on the EA Home Space. Engagements?
thesixthaxis: Lots of publishers signed up for Home content. Good, good.
thesixthaxis: Oh right, it’s that Home advert we saw a bit back. Watch out for the glitchers.
thesixthaxis: Shows lots of spaces that Europe doesn’t have yet.
thesixthaxis: 2009 all about content on the PS3, says Jack.
thesixthaxis: OK, another montage.
thesixthaxis: Uncharted 2, inFamous (7), some American footy thing, Bayonetta…
thesixthaxis: Batman, Dirt 2, Ghostbusters…
thesixthaxis: Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma.
thesixthaxis: A new Buzz game? Saw, Tekken…
thesixthaxis: Heh, Pixeljunk Shooter.
thesixthaxis: Trash Panic, lots of PSN stuff. Katamari.
thesixthaxis: EyePet. No, no Sony, wait. You need to work on that a bit more.
thesixthaxis: Ratchet looks great.
thesixthaxis: I’m just thinking we could be talking a little bit about these – God of War III better be a bit more than just a few seconds mister.
thesixthaxis: Ooh, Rockstar.
thesixthaxis: Agent. Exclusive to PS3.
thesixthaxis: The game is a steathly thing set in the 70s, will take players across the globe.
thesixthaxis: Expected to have the same must-have values as GTA. We don’t get to see it, though.
thesixthaxis: Ubisoft are here now to show us Assassin’s Creed 2, as we hinted at this afternoon.
thesixthaxis: AC2 starts right where AC ended. Different time period: Italian Rennaissance.
thesixthaxis: Looks really similar, to be honest. Apart from the setting, of course.
thesixthaxis: Will feature Leonardo Di Vinci. Hope he’s getting royalties. Oh, they stole his flying machine. WTH?
thesixthaxis: Looks like Lair now. Gulp.
thesixthaxis: I’m not sure, interesting demo, nice jumping. We’ll see.
thesixthaxis: Just put “nice jumping”.
thesixthaxis: Game will have 30 weapons, plus 6 more weapons if you play the PSP version and connect them together.
thesixthaxis: Crowd going crazy.
thesixthaxis: Game will be out this year.
thesixthaxis: Square Enix now. FFXIII will be coming in the Spring, Sony gets a video rather than a playtest.
thesixthaxis: To be fair, the video’s far more interesting than the Microsoft demo.
thesixthaxis: Ah, angsty spikey haired teens. It’s FF alright.
thesixthaxis: Oh, wait.
thesixthaxis: Is this for real?
thesixthaxis: FFXIV will launch exclusively on PS3 in 2010.
thesixthaxis: Where the hell did this come from?
thesixthaxis: It’s online, too.
thesixthaxis: Motion controlled gaming…
thesixthaxis: Jack’s now talking about the PS Motion Controller.
thesixthaxis: Hey, it’s the wand.
thesixthaxis: This is a bit akward, but it appears to work with the PlayStation Eye.
thesixthaxis: We’re getting some tech demos. It’s a bit like the Microsoft one but you need a wand, rather than just picking up your hand.
thesixthaxis: True 1-1 tracking.
thesixthaxis: Ah, so the Eye can change whatever the wand is via the PlayStation eye, so now the demo has changed seemlessly to a golf club, or a bat.
thesixthaxis: The tracking is really fast. Kinda kooky, but nice.
thesixthaxis: Right, so now it’s a FPS. Naturally it’s visually quite basic, but it’s tracking really, really fast.
thesixthaxis: Yeah, this is clearly way ahead of the tech Microsoft had yesterday. It looks incredibly accurate and really quite cool. Disappointment at first, but we’re now really impressed.
thesixthaxis: Now he’s doing some physics demo – with some dominoes.
thesixthaxis: Now they’re showing us some character control. With two wands you can have a sword and a shield.
thesixthaxis: Note that this is all 1:1 and totally 3D. Really quite good.
thesixthaxis: Works really well with weaponry, and the box and arrow trick is superb.
thesixthaxis: Yeah, fantastic. Well done Sony.
thesixthaxis: Motion Control will launch in Spring 2010.
thesixthaxis: 900,000 user created levels in LittleBigPlanet. Lots of new content coming to LBP, including some Disney licenses like Pirates of the Caribbean.
thesixthaxis: United Front Games: Mod Nation Racers.
thesixthaxis: Probably a little like that stupid throwaway thing on 360 from yesterday. This is coming from San Diego Studio, and subscribes to Play Create Share, like LBP. Naturally, this is exclusive too.
thesixthaxis: The players will create their own characters. Looks fantastic. Other players can rate your characters.
thesixthaxis: Presumably you can create your own cars too.
thesixthaxis: Wow, the visuals are lovely.
thesixthaxis: Track Studio will let you make your own tracks, too. This is perfect for me.
thesixthaxis: Oh, right, they’re going to make a track in 5 minutes.
thesixthaxis: Works a bit like Far Cry 2’s editor, really straightforward, and totally real time.
thesixthaxis: Objects, pick ups, trees, hills, all dead easy.
thesixthaxis: Great demo, well done chaps.
thesixthaxis: Totally blows Microsoft’s similar product away.
thesixthaxis: Game will be out in 2010.
thesixthaxis: Trico team.
thesixthaxis: Known as The Last Guardian.
thesixthaxis: Looks familiar.
thesixthaxis: Wow, shame this got leaked. Sony must have been furious, right? ;)
thesixthaxis: Looks incredible now, mind. The best kind of exclusive.
thesixthaxis: Ueda must be one proud chap.
thesixthaxis: Little teaser for GT 5 now.
thesixthaxis: WRC license, nice.
thesixthaxis: NASCAR too.
thesixthaxis: Le Mans, presumably. Yeah, stunning. Made Forza 3 look like a toy.
thesixthaxis: And now we’ve got God of War III. Live demo, too.
thesixthaxis: Right, so there’s a demo. It’ll be up on PSN later, right?
thesixthaxis: This looks visually amazing as well.
thesixthaxis: Kratos has plenty of new moves, and there’s still the massive bosses. Pure GoW stuff but really a notch above everything else.
thesixthaxis: Microsoft must be reeling, this is wonderful.
thesixthaxis: Dismemberment, too.
thesixthaxis: The demo is live on the show floor, game is out March 2010.
thesixthaxis: I think he’s wrapping up.
thesixthaxis: Yep, amazing show, Sony.
thesixthaxis: Keep an eye on TSA for all the round-up you’ll need. Cheers guys.
