TheSixthAxis has learnt over the weekend that although the recent Firmware 3.0 feature set couldn’t be confirmed as being 100% accurate, it probably isn’t too far from reality. “We’re still 6 months or so away,” said one individual speaking off the record, “but 2.90 will come first.” The individual refused to comment on the rumours we had heard regarding Home integration, but re-iterated that “lots of things can change between now and then”.
Stay tuned to TSA for all your Firmware news.

Hopefully 2.9 will be sooner rather than later and include some new features, and move the battery indicator.

Because Sony is not fixing the battery issue, did they ever give a statement why the clock and the battery are overlaying in the first place?
Is it by design and are they never going to move one of them?
Surely they answered one of the blog post about this?

I’m just after the battery indicator being moved, it may only be a little thing but it is so annoying after time specially when your only after a quick glance at the time, little things like that really do get annoying.

I can’t believe this battery indicator thing is such a big deal? I know it was pretty stupid on the part of the designers but does anyone really use their XMB clock that much?
Hope to see some significant changes soon.

I often just tap the ps button when im playing a game to check the time, but the icons in the wsy. It does get annoying especially when its a simple thing to fix.

It cant be that hard to have a clock near the PS3 for the time being is it?

For me it is because I like my TV-wall clean. There is only a Flatscreen and the Speakers…
And the PS button pauses the game if possible…

I agree about the battery indicator not being a big deal. It takes all of a second to go off and if ur that bothered then get a watch. People make a bigger deal of it than it is.
Hope to see some good changes in the future, but that one i dont care about.

The thing is that it’s been so long its like a little in-joke between the PS3 community. I expect that most people have stopped using their PlayStations to check the time by now, and as the post below this says, does noone use good old fashioned clocks these days?

Nope, I usually use the Sky program guide, but can’t do that when I’m gaming

No. The more clocks you have the more faffing around you have to do twice a year. So i don’t have one

Firmware features such as the following would be great, excluding bug fixes:
* MKV support due to updating to DivX 7 support
* Skype support (PSP got it)
* Google Chrome as a browser instead of Netfronts piece of shit
* A list of games under “Game data”, where you can download patches and read changelogs for games that you’ve played on the PS3… would speed up the patching process, where we don’t need the game disc inserted to update a game
Other stuff I want from Sony:
* Video store in Europe/Sweden
* VidZone in Europe/Sweden
* PlayTV incl. DVB-C support

The netfront browser is badly out of date, it either needs a major overhaul, or just removing from the system, because the list of things it can’t do is now to long to ignore.
Also it seem impossible to browse more than a page or so without th system running out of memory – Way to go PS3!

Maybe Sony could setup a Citrix/RemoteDesktop kind of seemless option.
This will push the browser seemless to the PS3 like remote play and no problem with diskspace, processor speed (you know what I mean), Flash versions etc.. al that is done on the servers…

As long as they move the battery indicator I’ll be happy. Although I don’t see why I want it moved. I can just glance slightly to the left and see my alarm clock.

I’m hoping for a FW update that’s stops everybody and their bitch moaning about stuff the EU Blog is just full of whiners, and seriously who cares about X game chat, I can’t think of anything more pointless, now an XMB based party and game launch system would be useful and will probably come if some Home features integrate with the XMB

Massively, massively agreed. People just don’t read previous comments/answers, it makes me want to crush most of the EU!
As for X Game chat, I would have agreed with you up to last month but when me and a friend were playing inferno and chatting and one of us left the room and it cut out, that was annoying. It was the first time I’d noticed it and instantly made me think, well thats gay.

There is one feature id love to have added on that is to allow playlists to be created from music stored on usb drives and especialy network drives. Its brillant that i can play my music stored on my NAS drive but i cant when im playing games, without copying it to my ps3.
Also the clock is abit of a slip up by sony, it should have been picked up before it was released by quaility control.

I hope the 3.0 rumours are true, because most stuff looks useful but I would expect 2.9 to be quite big aswell, but I don’t understand why everyone thinks 3.0 will be so big because it could be the same as every other update, we will just have to wait and see.
PrettyVacant | 29/06/2009 10:58

Yep, going by the history of updates to both PS3 and PSP there’s no reason to assume that 3.00 will be any bigger than 2.90.
Sony’s numbering system makes much more sense if you move the decimal point one place to the right.

Yea I understand that 2.90 would be bigger than 2.91 for example because the .x0 updates are usually bigger than the .x5 updates if you get me.
