The PS3 Slim rumours continue. Apparently two Taiwanese companies (Foxconn and Pegatron) have been awarded the contract to manufacture the much-rumoured PS3 Slim. According to UDN, half the orders have gone to each company, with the units expected to start shipping in early July to “cope with the expected summer vacation demands”.

These two firms actually produced the original PS3, so this does ring true, and with the Japanese buying most of their games consoles in the hotter months, lets hope that the rumours are indeed true and we can finally put this particular rumour to rest. The units are expected to hit the market, if all this checks out, in August or September, so we’ll know very soon…

  1. Cool,

I don’t think these rumours are going to stop until it’s on the shelves, just a matter of time I suppose.

    • Although that’s true, I have to say that this particular bit of information, if even remotely true, would seem to be pretty strong evidence.

Remember when the original photos leaked, everyone was wondering why the boxes were already in production? This may be because they were looking for a July ship date, which honestly, I wasnt expecting. If a slim was going to ship, I would have thought it would have been a LOT closer to the end of the year or even 2010.

  2. If true, they better have “WARNING: this unit will be extremely hot to the touch” stickers on them.

    • And not so hot to look at. I Prefer the original design.

      • I second that! altough the usb to the back would be a nice on the origional :)

        Funny I liked the PS2 transitions…

  3. I just think the font and stuff on that picture look very dodgy. Also, Foxconn and Pegatron sound like transformers!

    • lol Clearly ‘Decepticons’ !

    • That’s what everyone was saying about the font before the PSP Go was revealed, but it actually matches the PSP Go’s font, so I think it’s pretty safe to say this is real.

  4. Foxconn also made PS2 hardware, Hopefully this is true, and not just someone knowing their stuff and making up crap.
Although, I personally don’t see the need for a Slim PS3, especially if it looks like that!

    • I actually don’t mind the design. I’d really want to see it in person before passing judgement, but it looks like the current design… but flat.

If the width and height dimensions aren’t different though, its very appealing for me. A bit larger than the PS2 slim and I’d probably get it.

  5. I’ll believe it when I see it in the shops!

However if it is true, it’s interesting to see it’ll have a 120gb HDD (according to the picture above). The PS3 definitely needs a bigger HDD, what with the increasing amount of DLC available, not to mention the amount of disc based games that also part install on the HDD.

    • I’m already running a 120 gig, i did that the first day I got the thing.
I didn’t think it would be so easy to upgrade but it was. as for the thing being slim, I also think heat would be an issue.

      • My 320 Only cost me £34.99 from amizon :p

    • I’ve got a 320gb PS3. It makes no sense to pay more for the extra hardrive space when you can update it yourself for less than the increase in price AND get more space. My 320gb hardrive only cost me £50.

      • I bought a £500 for just short of £80

  6. I would love to work for Pegatron. That would be so badass to tell people at parties…

I still think the Slim looks ugly, but then again I said the same thing about the Go. Perhaps, I am just losing my taste for Sony aesthetics.

    • “Yeah yeah, he’s pretty evil but can transform into a fax machine so he’s not all bad”

  7. Really can’t see this happening so soon after the launch of the PS3. Not saying they aren’t producing them to have a stockpile for when they are eventually released tho.

    • Why not? PSP-2000 was announced 2 years after the PSP

      • …was released

  8. From the picture it doesn’t even look that nice. It just looks like a ps3 that’s been sat on by a really fat person.

    • …and it ships with a code to download Fat Princess. The princess sat on a PS3 – now you can buy the machine and play the game!

  9. It still looks like George Foreman should be on the box…

  10. I really don’t care. As long my PS3 works, I’m happy.

  11. Coming, yes. Coming next month? I doubt it

    • Exactly. They probably just mean they’ll start rolling off the production line next month, that doesn’t mean Sony are about to launch it.

      • Good point. Probably wot be coming till at least september, as they will need to “announce” it somewhere, presumably Cologne or Tokyo

  12. I really can’t see Sony releasing the PSPgo and PS3 Slim within a few months of each other. Surely if they did that then it’s likely one could hinder the sales of the other?

  13. If it’s true I’d love one , can you use you PSN username on another PS3 ? If you can I’ll be sorely tempted .

    • Of course you can.

    • Just sign-in with your email address and password.
      Simples

      • Really ? Trophies and everything ? Just goes to show that have exactly 0% mates with a ps3 . I can’t believe I’ve had a ps3 for 2 and a bit years and still didn’t know that , my dad has one too but he * old man tone * ” still has 4 world war two games to go through that haven’t been touched yet ! ”
he’s used it twice ……. really , only twice !

  14. In Before ‘If it’s true..ADVERTISE IT!’

    • Sony find advertising common and vulgar. Or so it would seem. :o (

  15. It does look as though it’s been sat on by a yank.
I think this would have to be sat on a heat proof mat at all times, just so it doesn’t burn a whole in your shelf.
