Yes, we’ve already had Eric Lempel’s paraphrased update list, but that’s not good enough for us, we want the full change-list and now we have it fully translated, thanks to the AndriaSang blog.  Remember, this lands on September 1st and all new PS3 Slims will ship with it pre-installed.

GENERAL:

  • Access the latest PlayStation Store contents directly from the Games and Videos sections of the XMB interface.
  • Areas where the screen keyboard is shown will now allow for the ability to copy text.
  • When you create folders on your media, the folders can be of the photo, music and video type.

SETTINGS:

  • The sound settings area let you select simultaneous audio output, which makes the system output sound simultaneously through HDMI, optical, and AV Multi. However, everything except for the connection specified in the main audio output setting outputs in 2 channels only.
  • Video settings adds HDD audio language and HDD subtitle language options. Using these, you view videos using language tracks and subtitles from your hard disk. Some content does not allow for these settings to be used.
  • System settings adds the the ability to activate DTCP-IP. This lets you undergo internet based authorisation that’s required for viewing copy protected videos on a media server.

VIDEO:

  • When playing back video content, you can use the right stick on your wireless controller for forward and reverse.

NETWORK:

  • “Print this page” added to the internet browser menu.
  • “Save screenshot” added to the internet browser menu.

FRIENDS:

  • Can view message history between friends in the profile screen.

  1. most of that i wont use

  2. Themes?

    • Yeah, this is not the full list, unless themes come in 2.9? but still what about the new top-right profile?

      • There isn’t going to be a 2.9

  3. I still dont think this is the full change list. Its missing some of the other stuff. Im hoping theres some unmentioned stuff to come. AT the end of the preview video i watch he said look forward to more features when it ships. Also the PS3 slim doesnt have 3.0 from launch i have heard. Its meant to have 2.76.

  4. Also the new information bar?

    Can’t be the ‘full’ list..

  5. Sound via HDMI & Optical at last!

This means if I don’t want to switch the amp on I can just have the TV speakers outputting the sound, without having to alter menu settings. Nice.

    • Big one for me too. Sometimes I just can’t be arsed setting up my AV for a quick game of something.

    • YES!!! I’ve been waiting for this too.

    • I just plug HDMI into my telly, then run av cables from my TV’s output
straight to my soundbar. Only works if your TV has output of course.

  6. This can’t be the full change-list.

  7. This isn’t the full changelist though. It doesn’t include the ‘most recent’ section, animated theme support or more importantly the fact that the clock has moved!

Is this just meant to be the additional changes that we didn’t know about?

  8. As someone who uses the PS3 browser daily, being able to take screenshots, and copy text from the on-screen keyboard is a godsend. Thankyou Sony.
Now give me cross game chat. Or at least in-browser voice chat..

  9. most of that is amazing and really what made me the happiest was that I can now have 7.1 using my home cinema system + tv speakers also my mate can now play his itunes music in game?

  10. The stuff about the folders and the ability to copy text sound good, but nothing else seems to be of much use. Still got my fingers crossed for cross-game chat though. :)

  11. Just to let you know, the firmware isn’t actually pre-installed on the new PS3s. I think Eric Lempel said it in the video or it was mentioned by Jem on the EU Blog. I can’t remember where I saw that exactly but I know it was somewhere official.

Also, there’s something wrong with the login here. It takes about 5 minutes after I log in before it registers that I have actually done so. It’s a bit annoying having to wait 5 minutes to make a comment.

  12. Finally! I can use the PS3 now without having to get out of bed and turn on my surround sound :D

I would have been happy just to have that, but the extras are more than welcome ;)

Will we be getting an updated TSA theme to incorporate background animations? :P

  13. I think that these are the changes that aren’t explained in the video or in the official blog..i mean, other than animated themes, what’s new section ecc ecc you get these also :)

  14. WTH? “System settings adds the the ability to activate DTCP-IP. This lets you undergo internet based authorisation that’s required for viewing copy protected videos on a media server.”

I read that as “allows you to finally play DRM’d iTunes content on your PS3″. Does it look that way to anyone else?! Cause damn that would be nice!

    • I have no idea where you got that from… :S

      • Hmmm…it’s the 3rd bullet on the list after “SETTINGS” in the article. Surely it has something to do with online content anyway, iTunes might be a whole other ballgame.

  15. Makes me wanna buy a ps3 slim even though i gotta phat one

    • Why? All the features mentioned above will be in “Fat” PS3’s too..
