What is it with all these patches nowadays? It really is starting to become an annoyance, and I know many gamers who may need to play a game and can’t because they do not have the time or patience to install the newest patch. So, it is with a heavy sigh that I say that the newest Ratchet and Clank will be getting a patch soon, which will fix a glitch causing a regular playthrough, where you have defeated the final boss, to change to a challenge mode playthrough. That’s a pretty big bug, so it escapes me how this wasn’t found during testing.
Reading the thread over at NeoGAF, it seems the patch will also address the rare issue of a particular boss not dying. There isn’t a fixed release date for the patch yet, and hopefully it will make its way our side soon enough.

That is a pretty big glitch. Hope I get my copy in the next day or 2 and then also hope that the patch comes out in time for that too, or i dont experience the glitch.
Did you get the glitch Zuler?

Nope, but I haven’t played anything yet after defeating the final boss, so hopefully it doesn’t happen to me.

This is a big glitch. How was this not picked up on before release? Lazyness in testing

The reason it was not discovered before is most likely the fact that they CAN patch games. That fact alone means testing does not have to be nearly as thorough, as they can always patch it post release when players find problems.

Cheers for the heads up as I’m currently about 1/2 way thru the game. Hopefully the patch arrives sooner rather than later to fix the glitch.

didn’t think that much of the demos either, but got the game as I love R&C – glad I did, the game is absolutely brilliant.

As a R&C fan since the first game I disagree. This game is by far the worst in the series. One word to sum up the entire production would be LAZY. Smallest and fewest levels, uninteresting characters, re-used enemies from last game and even a re-used villain! I think the fact that they had a contest to design a new weapon points to how bored they are of making R&C now. As a second game on new hardware they should be ready to take it to the next level but they couldnt be bothered. The new feature with space exploration felt even more pointless than the planets in mass effect and just made collecting zoni and bolts easier. MEH

Wanted "Trophy Hunter" but was too late.

A game like R&C needs a few hours and then it really makes sense. I’m 9 hours into the game and I started to love it 8 hours ago

“and I know many gamers who may need to play a game and can’t because they do not have the time or patience to install the newest patch. ”
Surely they can just decline to install until later?

But many gamers will want to play online, and you can’t do that if you don’t install the latest patch.

Surely if you’ve got time to play the game , you’ve got time to download the patch. If you havn’t got the patience well……?
I’m all for patches and FW updates. I agree the games should release finished and tested, but hey, at least they are fixing them.

They really need to hire proper testers!!

What?
Testers place defects into code don’t they? Of course they do, Silly me! They could always Hire proper developers, or reprioritise the bugdet for things like testing.
They may well have known about this defect for a while (devs call them bugs, testers call them defects!) and decided that it was a low priority for launch and that a patch could be produced in time for the impact to be negligable compared with pushing back the release or hiring additional staff.
I think placing the blame at the feet of testing is far too easy, and I really can’t imagine any games tester I know not noticing that sort of thing, however, I certainly can imagine any number of project manager or marketing person deciding it’s not that big an issue….
Rant over….

Right, how did devs make games before online?
Seriously… they were NOT glitched to hell… and they couldn’t update them if they were.

Games today are more complex and many more people are involved during the development process, so it’s not surprising when a few bugs slip through the cracks. This one seems like that something that should have been caught though.
And the good old days had their fair share of bugs as well. Jet Set Willy’s infamous ‘Attic Bug’ which prevented you from completing the game being one example. I fired up Tracksuit Manager again recently, and was amused when I remembered that players who’d been red carded stay on the pitch, but just have their names blanked out in the commentary leading to incidents like “___ shoots… and scores!!!”.

But Zelda: Ocarina of time is HUGE and this was way before games had to be bug tested.
And it hardly has any major bugs.
And nice examples there
Lazy dev work is what I think it is.

Seriously, people are so impatient. If you can’t wait 5 or 10 minutes on a patch which is going to fix something on your game, and make it better, then you’re going to struggle for most parts of your life with anything that takes more than 10 minutes of your time.

But yes, it might just be lazieness from a developer point of view, but whatever; they found it and are going to fix it. Be happy with that.

Agreed, I love that they can patch things nowadays. It might be lazy that the glitch is there in the first place, but at least they find it and fix it. I’d much rather have my game fiixed.

I’ll never understand complaining about patches. If you want to complain about a broken game or devs who ignore bugs, then fine, but patches do nothing but good for you. Back in the day, if there were glitches, we just had to deal with it. No re-issue, no fix, no nothin. I think we’re lucky to live in this age where we can actually get patches delivered to us.

Challenge mode? Didn’t see the option for it in the game, so I take it you get that option on completion? Shame they jiggered the game like this all the same, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed I don’t get hit by the bug.
Good game, but the Clank bits are really dragging it down in my eyes. I love the free roaming space ship bits with the mini worlds though, great addition.

To be fair, you can always skip a patch’s install and do it later. So long as you’re not planning on taking the game online (and R&C is SP only anyway), there’s no problem what-so-ever with not doing the patch straight away.
Unless, of course, you’ve encountered the bug, that is…

I’ve just completed the game (on Hard… Was easy!
), and i can see no glitches. I’ve gone back to a time before i defeated the final boss, to collect anything i missed before moving onto challenge mode.
