So which version are you buying?

Rumours circulated earlier in the week that Sony and SEGA would work together as some kind of ninja task force and ‘fix’ the subpar PS3 version of Bayonetta before the game’s release on Western shores next month.  The rumour started here (and was translated here) before appearing all over the web, and stated that “Sega and Platinum Games have taken responsibility for the bad port before deciding to work with the assistance of an engineering team from Sony to guarantee a PS3 version equal to the level of the console’s power.”

Originally, Platinum’s Tatsuya Minami went on record to say that “with Bayonetta, we created the Xbox 360 version of the game first, and then handed off all the data and other assets to SEGA so they could begin the process of porting Bayonetta to the PS3, giving them advice regarding the porting process along the way and overseeing the progress to ensure that the PS3 version would be the best it could be.  As hardware platforms, both have their own distinct differences and peculiarities, and these characteristics will naturally give birth to differences in the final product.”

The differences are there for a reason then, so what has suddenly changed to make some websites think that SEGA will be able to magically fix all the issues?  The fact is the PS3 version isn’t as good visually as the 360 version, even with the changes to the visuals (the colours are richer, that’s for sure) that the developers have already done in the timescale between the various demos.  The PS3 version still suffers from blurry visuals and a much poorer frame rate, and if that changes in the next couple of weeks I’ll be very surprised.  Still, it’s a 10/10 from Edge either way.

We’ve spoke to both SEGA and Sony to find out whether there’s any truth to the rumours, but so far nothing’s come in to back up the claims that we can publish.
