Prince Of Persia: Forgotten Sands Dated [9]

I know what you’re thinking, it’s seven in the evening and rather than watch Hollyoaks you’re looking around the internet for news on the new Prince of Persia game. Right? Well, consider me your special Monday saviour, because the lovely chaps at Ubisoft have delivered an email that fulfills that very requirement. The Forgotten Sands, as the new game will be known, is due next May for every platform under the sun, and takes place between the ace The Sands of Time and the not nearly as good Prince of Persia Warrior Within.

Visiting his brother’s kingdom following his adventure in Azad, goes the press release, the Prince finds the royal palace under siege from a mighty army bent on its destruction. When the decision is made to use the ancient power of the Sand in a desperate gamble to save the kingdom from total annihilation, the Prince will embark on an epic adventure in which he will learn to bear the mantle of true leadership, and discover that great power often comes with a great cost. About £40.

The game will feature huge-scale multi-enemy combat, dizzying feats of acrobatic prowess in gigantic environments, unforgettable set pieces and (their words) epic wow moments. Epic wow, that’s got to be the new Mon Tage. As with the brilliantly descriptive Sands Of Time, the Prince will be able to use the Sands Of Time to create lovely small models of various castles and rewind time, but this time around he’s also borrowed a few goodies from Link and he’s able to harness the forces of nature too.

Magic.

  1. Hollyoaks? Ugh.

Anyway, this does sound pretty interesting, but I’ve never been into the Prince of Persia games myself.

  2. Really looking forward to this. Hope it is as good as the first one. Although the WW, TT and PS3 version were good, I still thought the first was the best. And I’m happy to see a carry on from the original stories because it may mean no Nolan North and I hope they don’t get Jake Gylennhall.

    • The first one? What the 2D rotoscoped platformer? ;)

  3. Why have they gone and completely ditched the revamp? Did it not sell well enough?
Seems a bit stupid to change it back to the old style, especially if they decide to go back to it afterwards.

    • !) Because it was better and 2) Possibly to sort of tie into the film release.

    • The fact it was a deal of the day for £18 on play 10 days after launch and heavily discounted everywhere a week after that is probably an indicator of poor sales.

      • Oh. Well yes that does explain it. I thought it sold well.

  4. Pleased about the setting. Sounds ace, hopefully it will play most like Sands of Time, what a game that was.

  5. Very promising. I am looking foward to this and I hope it is as good as previous Prince of Persia games.

  6. Not happy about going back to the old series story wise but I can live with some of the original gameplay coming back through. From the video for it it looked like they ditched the art style as well which probably wont go down with me well.
I wonder what possessed them to ditch the new story.

  7. I really liked the “new” prince of persia and hope they’ve not given up on that story arc/style and this one is only to tie in with the movie (which is also out in May I believe). Still, looking forward to it, if it’s anything like the original sands of time it’ll be great.

Also, nothing could recreate the epic wow moment that is Mon Tage… :)

  8. I much prefer the cell shaded yummy goodness of the most recent PoP though – But I do admit I MUST be in the small minority of people that do lol

  9. not a big fan of the last one, time will tell with this one.

  10. Difficult to get excited about POP games, but I guess you never know. Give me the amiga version of POP any day lol!
