Major Nelson seems to think so.

It appears that the first batch of downloadable content for Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will only be available to Xbox 360 owners, according to Major Nelson, at least in terms of being a timed exclusive.  “This Spring, the first Modern Warfare 2 content packs will be available exclusively first on Xbox LIVE,” he said on Twitter this morning, effectively leaving PS3 owners out in the cold.

Thanks, BoyDay.

  1. Grrrr….ah well, the number of exclusives us ps3 owners have totally outshadows this :P

    • actually I’m thrilled with this news, now I don’t have to pay for the additional maps in order to keep up. cheers

      • then we can actually here if its worth downloading them. Cheers Activision, done me a favour instead of getting sucked into the Hype

  2. “Exclusively First”. So Sony gets it Exclusively Second?? :P

    • Good point! :)

I remember this being announced at E3, the reason it wasn’t big news at the time is that it’s only exclusive for something like 2 weeks, which seems a little pointless – but at least it paid for Major Nelson to create a blog post to make it sound like bigger news and be feverishly replicated all around the internet like a digital game of Chinese Whispers!

  3. I don’t mind. I am happy with the multiplayer as it is anyway, if no DLC came for the PS3 I wouldn’t be too miffed though.

  4. Oh for f…… and breathe!!!

  5. Yeah, they did announce they would be timed exclusive on 360 ages ago at a live screening I think.
But confirmation of this is not very good, I mean the PS3 MW2 is already throttled by Activision/PSN’s poor servers, and I really wanted a map pack or 2 to see how it goes.. some awesome single player maps were missed out from the heap of multiplayer ones, probably to be added in as DLC.
No way am I spending £45 on a game to buy some £10 DLC early, though.

  6. I’ve heard that it’s a timed exclusive.
Not really bothered about map packs too much though so it’ll be right :)

  7. Errm, we’ve actually known about this since E3 – Microsoft boasted it in their show..

    • In fact, Here is two links from Joystiq and Eurogamer:
      http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/e3-modern-warfare-2-dlc-360-exclusive
      http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/modern-warfare-2-map-packs-hitting-xbox-live-first/

Both of which are dated June 1st 2009.

    • Old news, however it shows how little microsoft have left in the bag that they have to re-announce announcements…. i can remember it from E3 when they made a biggie about it being a timed exclusive…

      • Parker, no harm in this being posted now, as alot of gamers don’t actually go to rubbish gamer websites such as those above ;-)

    • @Parker @TH1882FC

We covered E3 extensively on TSA in fact there are over 10 pages of articles. Somewhere in there we mentioned that MW2 will have timed exclusive map packs on the 360

What this article is about is that Major Nelson was confirming it at CES yesterday – that isn’t old news its fresh news, as in – it just happened.

      • That’s exactly what I’m saying. Why re-announce something you already posted on the site?
Infact, Nofi writes about it in his MS E3 roundup (http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2009/06/01/microsoft-e3-2009-conference-round-up/)
        So err.. Yeah.

      • It was announced on stage at E3 during the microsoft conference by infinity ward that the first 2 map packs would be timed exclusives for the 360.

So whilst the fact “major nelson” made an announcement may be news, what he actually said wasnt really but rather repeating what we already knew.

  8. Here we go again… :(

  9. With the ammount of great games due out I cant really see myself playing MW2 much at all and I doubt the maps will be all that great, the last map pack they released on MW wasnt greatly received and I sadly payed for that.
I do agree with mynameisblair its old news that was always going to happen.

  10. This doesn’t really bother me at all.
MW2 is a GOOD game, some saw it’s the best thing in the world and others that’s rubbish compared to the first. (I didn’t play the first)

There is already a large amount of multiplayer maps and if the DLC will be the leaked thermonuclear warfare mode, which is just a battle over one base; i’m not too fussed.
If they are available too PSNers I will buy it since I only payed £30 for the game itself.

    • I think there are already 15 multiplayer maps so an additional map packs isn’t going to bother me too much, do I really need more than 15 maps?

  11. If it’s only a few maps, I genuinely won’t mind, but if it includes some more Spec Op missions or a bit more Single Player content, then I will be pretty hacked off.

    • I agree. I’m not too fussed about multiplayer maps. The multiplayer is a marginally updated MW1.
Spec Ops on the other hand! I’d buy more of that.

    • I very much doubt it’ll be anything more than MP maps and maybe a MP game type. I can’t see it being single player content

  12. Xbox Live stuff comesout Wednesday, PS3 thursday. It could be exclusive for a whole day :)

    • Thats what I was thinking. It wouldnt make sense to bring it out just on the 360 and then wait ages to bring it to the PS3.

  13. well, if there’s anything activision seem to love it’s money and ms do have very deep pockets.
activision remind me of those petrol stations that put their prices up during that fuel crisis thing a few years back, they knew demand would be high so they raised their prices, can’t speak for the whole country but there were a few near me that did that, and they went out of business shortly after when nobody would buy from them, and nobody dared open another petrol station on the same site so they all ended up having houses built on the site instead.
and this does sound like a timed exclusive, the fact he said you can get it first on xbox  seems to indicate that.

  14. Not bothered.  I’ve been stung by DLC before, and map packs for FPS’s dont tend to get used much anyway..  I spent £15-ish on the three map packs for Killzone2 and hardly anyone played them.  People are too used to the originals, so I doubt these will get played much anyway.

  15. Yeah i remember this being announced last year at E3. Tbh, whilst i downloaded MW maps as soon as they came on the store due to the amount of times that I played the game, these maps can wait. I’m in no hurry whatsoever. Plus I’m away end of March, so maybe the “timed exclusivity” will have ended by the time I get back in July ;)
