Microsoft have revealed to Eurogamer how long the first batch of downloadable content will be exclusive to the 360. So how long have they secured, you ask?
We have a 30-day timed exclusive on the Modern Warfare content packs.
Yes, one month. That is all. This deal covers the first two map packs, which are set to be released sometime this spring.
I wonder how much that deal cost them?

Don’t really see the point of this. I doubt anyone’s going to go out and buy the 360 version so that they can have the DLC 1 month early. If you’ve already got the 360 version then great and if you have the PS3 version I’m sure 4 weeks isn’t too long to wait. I certainly wouldn’t spend an extra £40 to play the DLC early if I could.

they announced that they had the timed exclusive before launch…basically, they didn’t tell people how long it was for. so lots of people who had PS3’s and 360’s opted for the 360 version due to the DLC…looks pointless now though as it is only 30 days. maybe next time people will ask questions on the time scale

I have to say that the way that Microsoft have been talking about this recently, and the announcement that was made regarding this at E3(?) last year, you would’ve thought that it would’ve been for a bit longer than 30 days?. I won’t even hazard a guess as to what was paid.

So you’ll only buy things if they are good then. Quite an insight. I’m going to buy them even if they are rubbish….

I love the spec ops! I thought that when I got the game that more would be released but I’m not so sure now. Anyways, there are hundreds of possibilities of online maps that haven’t yet been made, and as you said more game mode would be sweet. Personally i’d love more hardcore modes like hardcore freeforall or hardcore team games. That would be good.

Hardcore is my tipple too, its much more restrained and tactical than the normal modes. It requires much more skill, more of this would be very welcome

Agreed, I’m not interested in multiplayer maps, but I’d buy some more Spec Ops missions! I thought they were a great addition and a real challenge on Hardcore. I got the Platinum for MW2 because I enjoyed the challenge of Spec Ops, there would have been no way I would have got the Platinum is the trophies with Multiplayer focused instead…
As for the ‘exclusive’ I think it’s rather sad that money changed hands for 30 days exclusivity just to pad out their big E3 2009 surprises and add a few eye catching headlines to gaming websites, I wonder how many people bought a 360 or the 360 version just for this ‘exclusive’ and if they did I wonder if they feel a bit cheated…
Besides, it sure is nice of the 360 owners to playtest and review them for us PS3 owners to let us know if they’re worth wasting money on or not!

Totally not worth it, the same thing always happens with DLC, everyone pays over the odds for it plays it solidly for two weeks until they realise its no-where near as good as the core maps and goes back to playing them and just skips the DLC.
I will probably still buy them though,

It doesn’t really matter that its only 30 days, its enough that Microsoft’s marketing team can say that they get it first.. “360 gets the good shit first!” Thats the message that counts.
Of course, I wont be buying them anyway, like Brendan said above, they only get played for a couple of weeks anyway and then everyone just goes back to the core maps.. I learned that lesson with Killzone 2.

And agreed on spec ops DLC, although they need to make it playable 1st, the lag is ridiculous!

Seems an odd decision. If someone has both consoles but bought MW2 on PS3, I can’t see them buying the xbox version just for this. If it was 6 months or something then yes but not 1. Also, multiplayer maps are just not a big enough exclusive anyway (regardless of paltry timeframe), not like the GTA episodes

This is great news for PS3 owners IMO> We now get to see how good/rubbish it is, then can decide whether to buy it, instead of buying due to the hype, and then regretting it like most DLC. Cheers Microsoft

Tactical nuke, chopper gunner, 1887’s Akimbo, Commando sprinter and campers are enough to put anyone off this game – Battlefield: Bad Company 2 can’t come soon enough.
Nothing fragments on an online experience like premium dlc, when the userbase splits between the have’s and the have nots anyway

I love playing MW2 online but I find the use of chopper gunners incredibly frustrating.

Tactical nuke has never been a problem, I’ve been nuked once and nuked people twice. In over 1000 games.
Chopper gunner is deadly, but I play hardcore, so most people have cold blooded, and just hide in buildings?
akimbo 1887’s were bullshit, but they’ve been neutered and noone uses them anymore.
Commando sprinters are a problem, but not too bad
Camping is horrendous as you’d expect. But what’s to stop that in any game eh?
The worst thing on COD MW2 right now is the heartbeat sensor showing people who have ninja, what a load of toss.

cc_star: I like the way you think. Not sure tac nukes are all that much of a problem, but yes MW2 just doesn’t do it for me like it should. I too am a huge BF fan, loved the beta, hanging for more Bad Company!
Great to see EA not giving in to MS marketing like Activision. Seems like both consoles are getting pretty equal treatment when it comes to BF… perhaps slightly favouring PS3 even.
@Blayney: What game doesn’t have horrendous camping? BF. There are plenty of large maps and game styles that mean snipers are effective, but have to keep moving if they want to a) live b) get more kills. The balance is good.

Fair play. I find the balance is alright in COD though. If you keep your eyes open and your wits about you it’s hard to get killed by campers too much. Keep your back to the walls and use your ears, it’s not too bad.
I do hate people who sit in one spot, but that one spot will have several ways of getting at it, so you can just kill them if they refuse to move.
That’s what I find anyway.
I’m interested in BF though, I’ve been hearing people raving about them for years. I played 2142 and wasn’t fussed much. The maps were too large for me haha.
I also checked out the demo of 1943 and that was very enjoyable, it’s just my friends are these COD obsessed people so I coudln’t convince anyone to play it with me so I didn’t buy it
I’m keeping my eye on this new one.
Back to the discussion in hand; I look forward to the DLC. I used the COD4 maps all the time and found they were rarely skipped and very fun.

This could work out well – it won’t be a huge amount, but MS must have still paid a fair bit for the DLC. Hopefully the fact that they’ve paid a lot up front will reduce the price of the DLC for everyone, although as soon as it comes out on 360 we’ll know an approximate price for PS3.

I don’t really see the point of having a timed exclusivity deal on DLC at this point after the game’s release. The game was so highly anticipated, surely the vast majority of people who wanted to buy MW2 did so at the game’s launch, or got it for Christmas? Is it really worth the extra cost to Microsoft to put this incentive on buying a game for the 360 which has already made it’s mark on the market – I would’ve thought the money would be better spent on securing exclusives on games in development. If I remember rightly, wasn’t the GTA DLC-exclusivity deal announced some time before the game’s launch?

I reckon Microsoft must of pumped out about £4.32 to secure these rights…the deep pocketed bastards
