Sad as it may be, some of us only own one console. The cost of gaming this generation is at an all time high and, for a lot of us, there’s simply no way we could afford to buy all the consoles and feed them with games. Whether it be a single, incredibly simple DS or PSP game that you just wish you could get your hands on or a huge AAA title for the home console you don’t own, everyone has something they wish they didn’t have to miss out on.
The clearest memory I have of console envy is of the original Xbox. Sure I had a PS2 and a GameCube, and maybe the Xbox did look sort of like a breeze-block someone had tried to stylize, but it had the Halo series and WWE Raw, two titles that I desperately wanted. Halo didn’t really seem to have any equivalent title on the Sony or Nintendo sides. Everyone tried to tout the first Killzone as Sony’s version, but they’re really very different games, and very different styles of games. Also, in all honesty, Killzone wasn’t really that good. It felt clunky, slow and wasn’t all that fun. Plus I can’t remember the story at all. By contrast what I played of Halo on friends’ Xboxes seemed a much slicker experience. The controls felt tighter and more responsive, the array of weapons was just cooler, and I can recall the story from the sections I played.
The Halo/Killzone thing seems obvious, but why WWE Raw? Surely there was the SmackDown! series on the PS2. Whilst true, WWE Raw just seemed better. For a start, because of the Xbox’s hard-disk drive you could build custom entrances for your wrestlers using your own music! That seemed pretty awesome to me at the time. I also heard reports that the physics weren’t nearly as broken as they were in SmackDown! at the time (something the series struggled with for a long time), and the game was supposed to just play a lot better according to my brother. The jealousy was rampant with this game, I considered saving up my meagre earnings to get an Xbox and only this title – I actually wanted it far more than Halo. Even now it pulls at me if I see it in a pre-owned section.
As for this generation? Well there’s a few things that make me want a PS3, but nothing is nearly as tempting as when I had a PS2 and was missing the Xbox. However the Wii has a lot of titles that call out to me. Super Mario Galaxy is brilliant, I really want to try Zelda with motion controls, Mario Party is always great fun and I really, really want to try MadWorld.
Maybe one day I’ll own all three consoles, but that probably won’t be until the Next Generation is fast approaching. For now I’ll continue to feel my envy towards the Wii and sort of want a PS3 with no concrete reason why. What about you? Have you got one of the two big boys and desperately want the other? If so, what games are pulling you towards it? Or if you’ve got both do you want the Wii for some motion controlled goodness? Maybe you’re lucky and own all three, so just want to be a bit smug. Anyway lets have those opinions! Oh and if you must make them, I will probably read lists of reasons I “need a PS3″.

The only game that makes me want a 360 is Forza3, and 2 upcoming games, Splinter Cell Conviction (which is coming to PC, apparently) and Alan Wake. Its not worth buying a console just for 3 games tho, especially when you can get one of them on PC. Looking at what the PS3 has, I still think I made the right choice..

love my ps3 as it suits my style and for me it has the best games. 360 peaked with Gears 1 and PGR3 so no jealousy from me there. Wii on the other hand has some intreguing titles i mean Manhunt 2 in glorious 1080[ visuals for one, not to mention that new Street Fighter that they are getting. Wouldnt of minded a HD Dead Space Extraction either….
360 exclusives get played on my Lap Top so SC con and Mass Effect 2 are there for me if i want to play them – although I reckon both of them will end up on PS3.

The PS3’s come of age now and this year will see some stellar games. Can’t see that I’m all that jealous about the xbox.

I spend too much time thinking about games on my own console that I don’t have enough time to play to be envious of games on other consoles.

Only one that comes to mind at the moment is the Shenmue series on Dreamcast. Wouldn’t have swapped the PS2 for it though.

I’m the same I have PS3 and a Wii which hardly comes on nowadays. There are a few titles I really want to play on the 360 but I don’t get or play my PS3 games as much as I want to so theres no point.

I have a PS3 and 360, but I don’t want a Wii. Not interested in motion control.
The problem I have at the moment is finding enough time to play all the games I either own or want. I got two free games towards the end of last year and, although I’m about half way with one, the other hasn’t got anywhere near the PS3s disc slot.

I want Mass effect but alas cannot since my 360 decided it didn’t like Fallout 3 and spat red lights at me
I also miss Dead Rising, which was my most enjoyable game for ages. Looking forward to DR2.
Mate at work has 360 and ME and goes on about how rubbish the PS3 is, so don’t want to let him know I wish I had ME2!! But admittedly am looking forward to the PS3 exclusives more than 360 this year (Modnation Racer, GOW3, Heavy Rain and GT5 v Mass Effect, Alan Wake)

Back in the Sega/Nintendo wars of the late 90s I was Nintendo all the way, but Sonic blew my mind every time I played it at my friend’s house.
Nowadays I am very glad I went the Sony route. I find Halo far too generic and Gears is just brown and clunky to me. the only game I envy the 360 for is Forza and thats not helped by the continued delays of GT which, I suspect will be better, but I’m getting tired of waiting for.
There are many exclusives on PS3 I really like and only that one for the 360 so I am happy that I made the right decision.

Yeah, there are a few games that I wouldnt mind getting on the PS3 that arent available, but similarly there are games available for my PS3 that I look at every time I go into Tesco that I havent got and want, let alone the ones I have got and just dont have time to play!

I’ve always wanted the wrestling games that were never on PlayStation but never went and bought the console. Currently I want a 360 for Forza 3, a few other exclusives look good but Forza is the main attraction for me.
