OPM’s “Special Game” Is Black FPS

GoOnline Games recently mentioned that OPM’s Editor In Chief, Tim Clark, said they’d be talking about shooters in their next issue – Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Vanquish and ”another very special game yet to be announced.”

Well, TheSixthAxis has spoken to Tim, and can reveal that the “special game” is this – the FPS under development by the guys behind Criterion’s Black. The title will be published by Codemasters and run on their EGO engine.

For everything on the new game, check out Issue 43 of the Official PlayStation Magazine (on sale 16 March).

  Black was great, Its was one of the last games I bought for my PS2 before I jumped ship to PS3.

  They’ve done some decent racers this gen (GRiD) and that Cricket game they did is always tempting me, the demo was good.
  It’ll be interesting to see how this pans out. I might even spring £6 for OPM. If I can find £6 down the back of the sofa or something…

    I just bought GRiD this week and it’s brilliant, only played it for about 3 hours or so. I don’t really play driving games bar Burnout but this game has given me the same feeling I got years ago playing GT3, until now every other driving game has been a let down

I’m suprised they told you but good that they did. I thought they’d have kept it under their hats until the issue was out.

Black was a great FPS and totally lived up to its ‘gun porn’ tag.. I hope this new one is just as good (although not a sequel).

It’s still not clear that it’s Black but hopefully it will be. It was one of the best shooters on PS2.

I always thought the first level in Black was great, but then it got rather boring after that for me.

  |I never played it either, i remember the furore about it when it was released and I remember quite a few of my friends being disappointed by it, so i never bothered with it

I loved Black but there is going to have to be one major change for me to even consider Black 2: CHECKPOINTS!

I don’t want to spend 3 hours on one effing level! I got seriously pissed off with getting quite a way through a level only to realise that I either have to carry on until I complete that level, leave my PS2 on or give up and start all over again when I return to the game. It wouldn’t have been such a problem if the game hadn’t been as difficult as trying to lick your own ear!

  Agreed, that was a huge let down for me. Here’s hoping for checkpoints this time around! Overall though I enjoyed Black so will be interested to see where they go with this.
