The ESRB have let slip some new gameplay details for Sonic The Hedgehog 4 and from the description it sounds like fans of the original games are going to be very happy.
The rating summary, courtesy of GoNintendo says.
Rating summary – This is a side-scrolling adventure game in which players zoom through themed levels, collect gold rings, and jump on tiny robot enemies. Players earn points for collecting “power-ups” and freeing tiny animals that are trapped in the robots.
During boss battles at the end of levels, players may encounter an arch nemesis in a mechanical device that gets charred and emits some flames when damaged.
Episode One is set to be released via PSN, Xbox Live and WiiWare this Summer, and from the looks of things this could be one of the best Sonic games to be released in some time.

Back to good old fashioned yet brilliant sonic :) The new sonic games don’t do the series justice. sonic always been about side scrolling action. Good to see its gone back to its roots.

Dimps has done some of the better Sonic games in recent times (Advance and Rush).

Most of the developers involved with the early sonic games left Sonic Team to work in America years ago anyway, it’s hardly a loss.

Sonic Team would without a doubt involve Shadow in some super emotional storyline that just adds up to him going super or something and being a tard for a bit, or just introduce and new character. So Dimps is much, much better. For people who remember the earlier Sonic games anyway.

Finally a chance for the first decent playable Sonic game in years! But apparently, based on the 4 seconds of gameplay that has been shown, somebody has started a petition to boycott sonic4 because it might not turn out to be as good as the originals……? :O

Yes! Sonic and Knuckles was the BEST! IMO. I can’t wait to give this a try, and bring back some good old memories. I honestly haven’t played ANY Sonic game since Sonic and Knucles.
