Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions Cinematics

It does seem rather odd to have so much gaming news coming out of a comic convention, but a little over a month after E3 the San Diego Comic-Con is providing us with a wealth of gaming news. Odd as it may be, at least this piece of news does have a connection to comic books. That’s right the game that is narrowly beating Halo: Reach as my most anticipated game of the year, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, has had three new cinematics appear at the show.

First up are two twenty second cinematics which show off the Spider-Man 2099 dimension, as well as the newly unveiled Ultimate Spider-Man section of the game. Neither of these really show off much of the game, although we do get an explanation for Ultimate Spidey’s use of the black suit in the game.

Both of the short cinematics look good and show off the very distinctive art styles employed by each of the dimensions. I would have liked to have seen more of the Ultimate version of the web-head, but I’m pretty happy with what their showing for now. Hopefully we’ll see more of this high school variation of the character before the game’s release in September.

More interestingly the whole of the game’s opening cinematic was shown, sporting a voice over from the legendary Stan Lee. Having Stan involved in any Marvel project can only be a good thing, and his narration in the cut-scene is absolutely brilliant, as are the voices for Spider-Man and Mysterio. The only sour note in the trailer is that it does make the game’s plot seem rather simplistic, but hopefully they’ll be some twists along the way to keep players engaged.

Small issue aside these new cinematics have only fuelled our desire for the game to new heights.  Do these new videos make you excited as we at TSA are?

And yes there is something odd with the audio, it sounds like GameTrailers captured the audio from a microphone rather than having a direct feed.

  1. Are we still pretending Comic Con is a comic book event rather than a marketing fair for anything to do with “geek culture”?

This new Spidey game looks immense though. Can’t wait to get a go!

    • I heard a suggestion that they could change the first c to ‘culture’ which would make sense. Would be good to combine it with the inevitable move that’s coming. Aparently about 75% of the stuff on the actual floor is about comics, it’s just a lot of panels aren’t now. Additionally we don’t hear as much coming out of the comic panels as they’re not as marketable to people in general, as a big comic fan I’ve heard quite a bit about comics coming out of the con, in particular exciting stuff about Stan Lee’s new projects.

  2. Well ill have to say this looks great althought i dont know if it could replace spiderman 2 but i sure as hell hope it beats spiderman 3 (cringes at thought of that game) but we’ll just have to wait and see, any idea on a release i havn’t been keeping track of this game

      • You want to post an article? I’m afraid only staff can write articles. Feel free to jump over to the forum and start a new thread, though. I do think the topic you suggested has been raised already but, hey, knock yourself out.

      • If you wanted to write a guest article for consideration to be posted on the main site you can email it to me at kris [at] thesixthaxis [dot] com. If I feel it meets our standards it’ll be posted.

Otherwise, as Lee said feel free to open a thread in the forums :)
