Tesla Roadster Confirmed For GT5

The Tesla Motors Facebook page has confirmed that their battery powered electric sports car will feature in Polyphony’s Gran Turismo 5.

“Starting in November,” it says, “you can drive the Tesla Roadster in the newest Gran Turismo. Thanks to Sony Computer Entertainment for the next best thing to a real-world test drive.”

“Why burn virtual oil when you can burn virtual rubber instead?” asks the page.  The award winning, rather beautiful two door roadster, which outputs 248 hp, gets to 60mph in 3.7 seconds and can manage 120 miles per gallon.

We’re assuming it’s one of GT5’s ‘premium’ cars, of course, given the high profile of the vehicle.

  1. Cool for the extra confirmation but it was already in the E3 trailer. shown on the Top Gear test track.

    • Yeah, saw the post with the trailer on the Japanese GT site. Nice to see it confirmed for the disk though, eh?

      • Oh yeah, all news is good news, didn’t mean to appear to be so pedantic! :P

  2. Whoop. My first tip… Ive been very interested in electric cars particulaly the Tesla thanks to Red Dwarf’s Robert Llewellin. I’m hoping GT5 gives it some well earned publicity.

  3. Well at least they can’t cock up the engine noise for this car bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz should be pretty easy to get right. I love the game and can’t wait, but allways find myself disapointed with the noise of the engines.

  4. wonder if fuel’s still in GT5, if so this cars will go down quite fast, wouldn’t make it down the straight on the Nurburgring.

    • What? I don’t understand this comment.

      • Well i think in the older GT’s, you needed to re-fuel on some events (like you would IRL). Si ==o if you needed to refuel this during a race, you may not get the opputunity too

      • what happened to my ‘so’? it looked alright until i clicked submit

    • Interesting point. These things go a fair distance on a charge but they take a long while to recharge. Not gonna be much good for the endurance challenges if they go for true realism

      • How long do you think is a ‘ long while ‘ ?

      • Apparently, using a 220V 80A circuit it will take 3-3.5 hours. Not exactly a practical pit stop!

  5. 120 miles per gallon? Gallon of what? Pretty sure electricity isn’t measured in volume.

    • MPG equivalent.

    • It’s to do with the equivalent fuel needed to create the electricity it uses. In other words, the oil used for one gallon of normal petrol would generate enough electricity for the Tesla to do 120 miles.

      • Compared to your average supercar, that’s around 10 times the efficiency. Very impressive.

    • Yeah that was just me being a pedant.

  6. La la la release the game.

La la la release the game.

    (I love the Tesla though)

  7. Didn’t here that one coming! :-)

    • That would lulz worthy, but failed spelling is fail.

  8. Nice! :D

    • Been a long time since you popped by, where you been fella !?

  9. Those things are ridiculously epic in real life, hope the game matches that

    • Yeah they are, someone near my home has one and it is really cool.
It sounds just like a breeze when it passes you, really nice.

  10. Is that picture from 5th Gear?
