Katamari Creator Leaves Namco Bandai

Katamari creator and all round kooky character Keita Takahashi has parted ways with Namco Bandai. Despondent and dismissive of both the industry’s current state and of Namco Bandai itself, Takahashi recently called his now former employer a “so-so” company and claimed he had no interest in 3D or motion controlled gaming, labelling the waggle tech “old”. In a recent interview with OPM, the auteur said:

“At E3 I saw people putting on speeches but I thought the future seemed a bit dark. The 3D games didn’t spark my interest. I think motion control’s a bit old now. I don’t think those games are the future. It all seemed a bit dull.”

No news on what the Noby Noby Boy creator will do next or even if he’ll stay in gaming. There is that playground in Nottingham that we believe still needs finishing.

  1. He professed a real concern about Namco rinsing the Katamari franchise for all that it was worth and that if that was the case he’d make sure the industry knew he had nothing to do with said raping and pillaging. Ok, so Noby Noby Boy is barking mad but good on him for sticking to his morals and beliefs.

  2. Its sad to see him go…..

    • He’s not being fired into space, you know that, right? :-)

      • But if he was, then he could roll all the planets up into a big ball

  3. very nice

  4. i’d love a 3d katamari :)

  5. He created some pretty nuts stuff but it’s genuinely sad to see someone depart the industry who had a real verve and passion for something different. A real shame.
