Game Informer’s December edition got a few tongues wagging over on NeoGAF yesterday, with the general consensus that the US magazine will exclusively reveal a new Tomb Raider game in their January publication. The image (you can see the full pic here) shows a vessel shipwrecked resulting in speculation that previously leaked details regarding Lara Croft’s next adventure matches the context of the graphic.

From the old Shacknews story (which references a now removed fact sheet once hosted on site Fourplayercoop):

When a sudden storm destroys her research vessel, a young and inexperienced Lara Croft finds herself stranded on a mysterious and remote island hidden off the shores of Japan. Despite several signs of various inhabitants the island is oddly deserted, and an uneasy feeling settles in as strange sounds emerge from the shadows. With only her determination, inner strength and resourcefulness to help her, Lara must overcome the challenges of a harsh and unforgiving journey that will take her across a vast island wilderness and deep into the claustrophobic and menacing underground tombs from the island’s past.

The internal document also reveals that the new Tomb Raider would be a “reboot” that “[explores] the origin of Lara Croft’s transformation into a hardened adventurer as you unravel the story behind the island’s mysterious past,” lending more credence that a rebirth of the character, alluded to in the tagline “A Survivor Is Born” in the image, is Tomb Raider related.

You can also check out this site where, we assume, more will be revealed in due time.

  1. I think it’s pretty likely it is Tomb Raider 9 (i think). Hope it’s a bigger improvement from Tomb Raider Underworld.

  2. sounds like a pretty big deal for a tomb raider game. it’s nice to see the series grabbing headlines again, and a reboot (rumored to be sandbox?) is more than welcome!

  3. If I’m getting the message properly, it will be revealed on 6th December (my birthday) so, fingers crossed!

  4. Underworld was a big improvement and step in the right direction, it was still flawed though, so this game should have a good starting point for nailing that Lara experience in a post-Drake world

    • yeah, it was a big improvement on the series, in all but the camera.

    • i dont think thats ever going to happen. it would be very nice, though id settle for SR and BO getting psn releases and the ps2 iterations getting an HD remake.

      …cast him in.

    • I would love that. Couldn’t stop playing BO/LOK back then. Wouldn’t mind revisit the story, as it’s just fantastic, imo.
