GT5 Gets Online Patch This Saturday

Driving a Golf GTi online is great fun, until someone rolls into the lobby sporting a Veyron. Well, thankfully, Polyphony are on the case and although we’d have preferred this sort of thing to be in from the game’s launch, dropping a new patch to limit online races to specific car classes after just a few days is pretty quick going.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Yamauchi said that they had “received a lot of demands for having more regulations placed on the online play” and as a result are going to push out an update this weekend that will “include things like max power restrictions and weight restrictions.”

“It’s like a living creature, dynamically growing as we speak,” said the Polyphony head. Indeed.

Since launch the servers have been battered by the sheer amount of people wanting to play the game, which has affected the offline mode just as much as the online. “The data centre was set up to handle 500,000 connections but the number of connections we received greatly exceeded that amount and there was a high chance of experiencing problems as a result,” said Yamauchi.

“Online updates are planned of course for leaderboards and matchmaking,” he also revealed.

  1. Right. It is not possible to produce, Q&A and release such a patch in the space of 2 days. Fact. Period.

Conclusion: this was ready before the game even hit the shelves.

    Why? God knows.

    I will say this though:

“It’s like a living creature, dynamically growing as we speak,”

No, it’s called fixing bugs that shouldn’t have been there in the first place.

  2. What I don’t get is that Prologue’s online had classes and balanced races so surely you would build on that?
The congestion and insufficient servers I can kind of understand but that is just bizarre.

  3. “Online updates are planned of course for leaderboards and matchmaking,”

So, i don’t have the game yet, should have it later today. Quick question, does the above comment mean that there is currently no leaderboards or matchmaking? Or are they improving/fixing them?

  4. We want to win online credits too I’m sick of racing for nothing!!!

  5. Um………my online works perfectly!

But great to hear the speed of the patch :)

  6. man just waiting for a few months… and i’ll get my share!

    • yeah me too. Waiting for the price to drop to £20 or less, which is the minimum I’ll spend on a game these days.

      • So if a game goes below 20 you won’t buy it?

  7. The menus are darn well fantastic!

  8. Not as good ad my yaris tho.

  9. Menu’s are really good easy to navigate etc i love it in fact.

  10. Who cares the games good! I look fwd to as many updates patches dlc the devs can offer!

    • Who cares that the game’s basically broken? I’d say most people that bought it.

And yes, I do consider the fact that even single player modes are heavily hampered with network issues and that i can’t race against people online due to, again, network issues broken.

      • It was only yesterday where everything was going soo slow and forever to load, it was normal today.
