TSA’s Top 100 of 2011 – #39 PlayStation Move Heroes

Now that we’ve dutifully joined the Sony MOVEment, it’s only natural we want some good games to play with the newfangled motion device. There’s little surprise then that TSA’s curious nature has manifested in the form of numerous Move games magically materialising on our most wanted for 2011 list. Putting the word “Move” in the title of this particular entry seems to have also helped a tad.

Starting off as Heroes on the Move, Nihilistic Software’s renamed PlayStation Move Heroes is yet another IP orgy starring some of the PlayStation’s more popular of gallant champions. Then again, one of them is a thief, so … moving quickly on.

Six playable characters feature. PS3 stalwarts Ratchet and Clank; Naughty Dog’s pre-Drake legends Jak and Daxter; and Sucker Punch’s resident tea-leaf raccoon Sly Cooper, joined by his trusty cohort, Bentley. There’s no love for Murray, however.

Fifty levels are presented, split between former locations of the three franchises: Haven City from the Jak and Daxter games, Paris from Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank’s Metropolis City on Kerwan and a new location fashioned especially for the game referred to only as “Planet X.” Co-op multiplayer is possible, with player two automatically taking up the role of player one’s established side-kick. So, if you pick Ratchet, he’s joined by Clank, and so on. The title also consists of five basic weapon classes: Disc, Whip, Bowling, Projectile and Mêlée, with the Whip weapons for each character being controlled via one to one movement with the PlayStation Move.

Though Naughty Dog, Insomniac and Sucker Punch have nothing to do with the title other than being the creators of the characters, we’re hoping Nihilistic can channel some of the quality found in the numerous titles of the three famed studios and, galvanising the strong foundation proffered by such recognisable characters, create something special with the addition of the Move controller.

As a studio, Nihilistic are yet to bowl us over with a stellar game. Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects for the PS2, Xbox and GameCube was a solid if flawed superhero caper. Conan was decidedly average, while the XBL and PSN game Zombie Apocalypse didn’t get out of the 60% bracket on Metacritic.

We’re therefore cautiously optimistic PlayStation Move Heroes will deliver. A medley of fan-favourite characters all working, fighting and collaborating together, if anything, the game might be the only time you’ll ever get to play Jak and Daxter in a PS3 game.

  1. This will be more than likely the first and last time Jak and Daxter appear on the PS3, I really hope Naughty Dog will some day give that duo a chance again. Insomaniac done it for Ratchet and Clank and Sucker Punch are returning Sly soon. Hopefully if the game does well Naughty Dog might issue a comeback? Jak IV? :)

  2. Heroes on the Move sounded SO much better…

    • I hadn’t realised it changed! Don’t like it, nope nope nope.

  3. Played a bit of this (before the camera went mental and crashed the game) – seems pretty solid.

  4. Could we meet halfway and get a Jak collection? Never played the Jak games and am dying to play something totally new and unfamiliar. Know what I mean? Been playing nothing but sequels lately.

On the subject of sequels, won copies of AC:B, and GT5 at my work’s Xmas party. Yays.

    • Yeah, that was meant more as a reply to the first comment. Apologies.

      • You won both? Well done! :D Over on the subject over a Jak trilogy I hardly doubt it would happen. Especially since Naughty Dog are too busy with Uncharted as of late. :(

    • I’ve never played them either, would be a great rerelease. I’d be surprised if they weren’t made at some point, as they are probably more well known than Sly Cooper and their profile will be raised again with this game, on top of having such a well known creator to increase sales.

  5. Looking forward to this :) Never knew it was co-op! awesome

  6. Co-op? Never realised that. May get Move then when this comes out.
