Has it really been nearly two weeks since the release of Gran Turismo 5? Thankfully, now that the furore over the game’s foibles has subsided and the anger over initial review scores (that clearly didn’t have the reviewer get far enough into the game) has passed, people can actually start playing the game and enjoy it for what it is.
Enter reader and YouTube user AmanamanIII, who has edited together a neat pastiche of the BBC’s Top Gear show; in particular the section where The Stig throws ridiculously expensive supercars around a disused airfield – the same slice of tarmac that graces the Gran Turismo 5 disk, you’ll note. Here’s his take on the Ferrari 458, using Jeremy Clarkson’s commentary as a backing.
“While I think you will agree that with a spot of editing it is indeed possible to create a convincing Top Gear imitation,” says AmanamanIII, “it’s a shame the game doesn’t include the authentic camera angles from the show, not to mention his Stigness as a playable driver. Nonetheless, it’s still tremendous fun to drive around and offers great incentive to try and compete with Top Gear’s Power Lap board.”
His actual lap time was 1.20.177, “about a second slower than The Stig’s recorded lap time”. The BBC has removed the actual TV footage from YouTube on Copyright grounds preventing a side-by-side comparison, but regular viewers of the show will appreciate the similarities without seeing it.

Great stuff, I was thinking whether this could be done and I’m surprised that the lap was faster on the show than with the game but a good effort none the less.

Love it. It is a shame about the camera angles, I did think we would be treated to them in the replays around the Top Gear track.

It seems silly not to have programmed in the same camera angles as the show for replays, they’ve missed a trick there!

yah i assumed they would of done that too, not to mention add at least one of the reasonably priced cars.

Yeah, there are also no reasonably priced cars so that’s two tricks they’ve missed

Maybe they’ll all be added in one of the regular updates we’ve been promised :)

That is very impressively done, the edits to in car view work really well. As a few have said, it’s a shame the Top Gear camera angles aren’t available (especially the follow through, Gambon and crossing the line) but he’s done a great job with the available cameras

Yeah the fixed camera on the fast corner straight after the follow through where the cars shoot past the tyres is especially missed. Still a good vid though.

So want to try this out, but fear my driving skills are limited to arcade-type racers
