New Tomb Raider Gets Detailed

Yesterday’s announcement by Square Enix of a new Tomb Raider might have set tongues wagging (and in some cases, drooling) but it’s over to Game Informer who have the exclusive with all the details. The US magazine is running a cover story on the game, which is effectively a reboot of the series, and there’s a stack of new information in there.

We won’t spoil it all, as obviously the publishers want you to buy the magazine, but here’s a few bullet points to get you interested:

  • Lara will be 21 in this game.
  • There will be “brutal” death tracks, including a “deranged” man stabbing Lara in the chest and a boulder trap that crushes her head.
  • Concept art shows a bow, shotgun and pistol.
  • Aiming is now free and not locked onto targets.
  • The linear paths are gone, with Crystal Dynamics saying the player “can literally go any direction” and “carve [their] own way to the finish line.”
  • There are “base camps” in the game which act as areas to combine items and improve skills, and also unlock fast traveling.
  • You’ll need food and water to survive.

Sounds exciting. We’re big Tomb Raider fans and can’t wait to see what happens next.

Thanks, GAF.

  1. Will there be a cheat code so you can play her naked?

    • I’m pretty certain there will be.
I suppose that’s why they ‘made’ her at least 18 =P

      • Is it wrong that this makes me very excited.

  2. tomb raider died for me many years ago, nothing can bring her back in my eyes.

  3. Looking forward to this. Underworld was a decent game just spoilt by bugs and a naff camera angle. I love TR games (particularly 1&2 of course) so this will probably be a day one purchase for me :)

  4. Sounds like mt kind of game! Definately mt favourite genre and the sounds of this sounds incredible.

Shot up my highly anticipated list!

  5. Hopefully some ingame screens will soon be shown.

    • If you do some searching on the internet, there’s several GI scans with in game shots. The graphics are insane.

  6. Sounds brilliant. I eagerly await more information!

  7. Really sounds impressive. From not even knowing of its exsistence this time last week, this has gone and ruffled some high placed feathers on my interest/want list.

It’s been crying out for a reimaging for a while now and hopefully this is the title to give the series back the lofty place it once had among videogames.

  8. I hope it’s not like Far Cry 2 and this game actually has a story

  9. Wow sounds promising! Deffo looking forward to this!

  10. Sounds good, I just really hope she doesn’t look like that in the game.
