Dara Ó Briain’s Gaming Stand-Up Routine

In case you missed it – or happen to live somewhere else other than Blighty – here is a routine performed by Dara Ó Briain on the BBC’s ‘Live At The Apollo’.

Apart from pointing out to the BBC that gaming is the biggest entertainment industry in the world it’s also very, very funny. Dara tweeted the following after the performance:

A million thank yous for kind words about Live at the Apollo tonight. Yes! Metal Gear Solid jokes on BBC One! Take that, Panorama!

  1. Dara O’brien is actually a Legend. And now I love him even more, but not inappropriately… well!

    • Love him enough to get his name right?
      ;)

      • i knew someone was gonna pull me on that lol … I didn’t realise until I’d already pressed submit, we need an edit function here, that’s right, it’s all your fault that I make make mistakes (then can’t edit them out so it looks like they never happened)

  2. Top draw, loved the Charlie Brooker’s Gameswipe thing he did with a routine about dying in Gears of War too.

    • Yes a lot of it was from gameswipe, although the MGS stuff was new. Still very funny though!

I hope Charlie Brooker does another Gameswipe, the one he did focused far too much on game genres and not enough on current news and reviews.

  3. haha. great tweet by Dara. He is a great comedian

  4. I already respected the guy, but my respect for him has just jumped up a few notches.

  5. Take that Panorama!! Hah, nice one Dara!

  6. What I love most about this is that it’s not on a specialist show about gaming or a games website, it’s a primetime comedy show on BBC1 and proves that gaming is mainstream enough to talk about in as much detail as you might about popular movies or TV shows.
A hero to us all, Mr O Briain

  7. That reminds me to watch it on the BBC Iplayer.
