Uncharted Film: Elena May Be…

David O. Russell has once again been discussing his upcoming adaption of Naughty Dog’s ‘Uncharted’. Joining the rumoured cast of Wahlberg as Nathan Drake, Robert DeNiro as Sully and Joe Pesci as ‘Uncle’ will be Drake’s love interest, Elena.

In an interview with Empire magazine it is suggested that Amy Adams could make a great Elena.

“Ah, Elena. I’ve cultivated her quite a bit, and I think I’ve added a lot of dimension to her so that’s all I’m going to say,” said Russell. “I love the women characters and the more robust they are, the more robust the movie.”

“I love Amy Adams, I also love Scarlett Johansson; there’s a lot of great actors I think might suit. Hopefully, we’ll see how it works out with everybody who are being scoped to do that role.”

I can see Amy Adams as Elena as she looks the part, Scarlett Johansson less so but she has more experience in action movies. Who do you think should play the role?

David O. Russell also says he would “love Mark [Wahlberg] to be in it, I’d love Bob De Niro to be in it”, indicating that neither of these two actors have yet to sign for the movie.

  1. Shouldn’t ‘actors’ be replaced with ‘actresses’ in most of that article???

    • I thought the exact same thing.

      I don’t know if she could play the part very well, but Katherine Heigl certainly looks the part of Elena. Kind of sounds like her too… http://www.india-server.com/news-images/katherine-heigl-is-a-cleanliness-freak-9316.jpg

      • Yeah she’s looking pretty good. Got quite a fine rack on her too judging from that pic.
        I have no clue who Amy Adams is but just googled her and she’s ginger, isn’t Elena blonde. Stoll pretty none the less so I guess that ain’t a problem.

      • When I think of people who could play Elena in the film other than Emily Rose, the name that immediately springs to mind is Kaley Cuoco, as she’s a good actress and she’s actually funny…plus she’s not bad on the eyes either :) which helps.

        Katherine Heigl on the other hand, is nice to look at, but there isn’t much else to her.

        and Amy Adams is gorgeous, she is a babe and a pretty good actress, but she doesn’t resemble Elena in any way, unless they are just going to piss all over the game and completely rewrite everything…which it’s sounding like they are doing.

    • To be honest, i think it’s a PC/sexism thing – I heard about it recenly & i think that a lot of what we refer to as ‘actresses’ are now simply referred to as ‘actors’ so that there isn’t a divide between male & female.
      I personally don’t see the issue & i just think that it’s a bit ‘too’ PC for it’s own good.

    • Actually no, it’s the norm in Hollywood to call actresses ‘actors’. Because using a “actresses” is sexist.

      yes, I know, *facepalm* – but as you can see, DOR uses “actors” rather actresses.

    • Typical Americans (apologies to any fellow americano TSAer). Well next time I’m eating in Hollywood I’ll see how the waitress responds to waiter and tell her she’s being sexiest if she complains

    • Not really ‘actor’ is supposedly the new, politically correct, homogeneous word for someone in the acting profession to cut down on sexual differentiation… still going to use ‘actress’ personally but you get the idea of what some idiots (see lawmakers) feel is ‘sexist’.

  2. Ugh, I wish they’d just scrap this. It’s never gonna be good, just cringe-worthy and nowhere near as good as the games. Just like those awful Resi evil films (1st was okay, rest were crap)

  3. Why don’t they hire the lady who does the voice in the game. I’ve seen her in a couple of things on TV and she can act and she looks like her.

    • Because if they did that there’d be a slight chance of the film being any good.

      • Seriously though, it’s probably coz hardly anyone’s heard of her?

  4. I personally don’t think Amy Adams would be a bad shout. She’s got that sweetness thing going on but also can portray herself to be a bit of a hardass.

    • Spot on. She’s a lovely looking girl too although the above mention of Heigl is a great mention. Almost perfect for the role but a bit too dominant perhaps (both in stature and personality).

  5. Christ the way this film is going it’s going to be a fun film for all the family, inluding the kids who havent even played the game yet since it 16+.

    • Its going to be a 12A (like Dark Knight etc) there isn’t a chance in hell of it being a 15 or 18, and are you suggesting people younger than its age rating aren’t a large part of the game’s customer base?

    • yeah but it isn’t a brutal game. its not ultra violent, not much bad language and no sex so it’ll be on par with the batman series as far as ratings go. you can have gun fights and a few “ouch!” moments. i was expecting it to be a 12 anyway

  6. This guy seriously needs to be slapped in the face with some humble pie. He clearly thinks he is fantastic and all I have seen to anything in this movie is negativity!

    • I haven’t seen anything negative yet other than comments about it.

      O. Russell & Wahlberg have made a great movie in The Fighter, Di Niro is great, he seems to have got a grip on the female characters (but as is the way with modern movies they will need their character fleshing out & not just be arm candy)

      The only problem I have is where Joe Pesci fits in, I don’t know if he’ll be playing his silly role like in Home Alone/Lethal Weapon or if it will be more similar to his shockingly brilliant Goodfellas character.

      But at the end of the day, he’s not making a game, he’s making a $200m movie which will need to be a commercial success

      • I have seen widespread critisism of Markey Mark in the casting of Drake and not just by the hardcore who wanted Fillion. And even more critisism on the point that they seem to be making this story a very family orientated affair. If you haven’t seen that then you haven’t been paying attention as a lot of it was here. Not to mention the crtisism on this article

        Why would I take somebody else’s (article writer’s or commenter’s) opinion as my own?

        Whalberg is a good actor, see Three Kings or The Fighter for details. O. Russell is an excellent (really excellent director) see Three Kings or The Fighter for details, what’s not to like?

        Apart from clinging to some absurd reality that the film has to be exactly like the games for some reason, which wouldn’t work over a 2 and half hour $200m movie.

        The advertiser or TSA? Or is it a collaboration?

      • I think Alex (nofi) did this one. Since he ‘retired’ from TSA he’s had loads of free time, so spends it doing stuff for TSA.

        I’m wondering when he’s going to notice the flaw in his plan..
