A very heated discussion that consistently arises these days is the quality of Call of Duty’s multiplayer. Millions of people still play it but a large number of gamers have been very vocal about some of the issues that occur when playing online. When specifically speaking about Black Ops, lag is the topic I see come up the most often.
Ever feel like you’re shooting at a guy with no result? The video below – created by a fellow from YouTube named ‘WhaleMasher‘ – explains what’s really happening in those scenarios. Of course, this video could flame up in to a full blown war between those that prefer server-based games and those that don’t care either way, but we’re not going to chime in on that just yet. However, you should keep your eyes peeled in the future. You might just see a lengthy ‘discussion’ come from this.

Oddly enough, reload is always on time.
This is true thou, it explains why you get those WTF moments. 5 Star Video.

The perils of P2P based console gaming, there are just too many variables at work, PC gamers have known this for as long as online shooters have been possible.
Dedicated servers (like many PC games, & a few of the larger console games) or reducing the amount of players (like uncharted2 etc) is the way to reduce lag’s impact – Once you’ve patched your code, there is no other way.
Hopefully this vid just educates people as to what’s going on, and thanks to BlOps theatre mode we can see it.

How does MAG handle it so well? Does it have dedicated servers?
Matt W [Echo]
Indeed it does. And I have to say, for 256 players, MAG ran astonishingly well. I never ran in to issues in any of the game-types, and I played it a lot during its first few months.

The most annoying thing about playing COD is that you know they make millions in profit but they still cba to put in dedicated servers.

Nice video. It’s good to see the hit detection when it works, it’s just a shame that it doesn’t always. Not that you can expect it to be perfect everytime. In the one where he killed the guy in room, where hit detection works I’d like to see how it looks from the victims perspective.
Anyway, fingers crossed we don’t hear any “that’s why CoD is shit” or “I traded this in because of this rubbish”. We know you don’t like CoD. You tell us everytime there’s a story on it. I’m not holding out much hope though…

I think the important thing to remember is that happens in every game, server-based or not… it’s just probably not as bad with dedicated servers.

Black ops is terrible in my opinion. Its just a time killer.
jmg24bad
Oops. Sorry jonny lol.
jonny_bolton
Haha, lol. I’ll let it slide this time, but only because you did it a minute later ;)

Is BFBC2 on a P2P setup? Because in the time I’ve played that I’ve never once experience a WTF moment, and as far as stability goes I’ve only ever had the one disconnection. Well done to DICE
xdarkmagician
It has dedicated servers. As far as I know all EA games have dedicated servers, that’s why they can charge for an online pass, and activision can’t because activision games are P2P.
xdarkmagician
I don’t think theres any debate on which is better, dedicated servers are the only way to go. There’s usually less or no lag, dedicated servers don’t require downloads to your PS3 to update, plus they help reduce piracy and cheaters. When you look at all the pros for P2P they only favor the host, like being able to kick players or alter settings like time limits or friendly fire. P2P is for control freaks if you ask me, whereas dedicated servers are optimized to benefit everyone and to create a fair match.

When you say all EA games have dedicated servers, does that include the Dead Space 2 multiplayer? As I’ve noticed on the box (that’s still unwrapped) it too has an online pass.
bigdon23
Battlefield bad company was the laggiest game i ever played, did they change something for BFBC2?
hennerzcfc
very good video
Grey_Ghost13
I know millions of people play this online, and it seems a now larger majority are complaining about lag, and not all are complaining, but I think those that are not have either great inernet connections and do not experience it or have no idea that there’s lag, how many little kids are online that can tell the difference?
bigdon23
You just get flamed if you complain about it nowadays?
Bilbo_bobbins
hmm, thats is interesting to watch. A good video, I must admit I never seem to have massive problems with Lag, but it shows it doesn’t happen.
