Sony’s British-born head honcho has spoken about the PSN breach, thought to be the biggest internet security breach ever, in a shareholders meeting. He addressed the breach directly, stating that the hack was a retaliation to Sony’s efforts to prevent console modifications.
We believe that we first became the subject of attack because we tried to protect our IP, our content, in this case videogames. These are our corporate assets, and there are those that don’t want us to protect them, they want everything to be free.
Stringer also avoided a request from one of the shareholders that he stand down so that the company can have a fresh start going forward. Although that question was avoided, it is widely believed that Kazuo Hirai will eventually take over from Howard Stringer at the head of Sony’s boardroom table.

I don’t like the way he generalizes everyone as cheapos who want everything to be free. I’m sure there are some people out there that just want OtherOS back for all the right reasons.
bunimomike
I’d agree except he’s addressing the hackers. People who miss OtherOS have a right to feel narked-off but I’m sure they’re also level-headed enough to realise this is life sometimes.
The hackers, however, went on a crusade and his thoughts were primarily about that.
KeRaSh
That is true.

He’s pretty much spot on. Also, I’d like to see Kaz take over (in the long-run) just so we don’t see him on-screen as much. He comes across so smug it damages anything he discusses. Tretton really should be used as much as possible with an eye to making sure someone else rises to the top of the media machine as they shouldn’t rely on Jack alone.

So… did we find out who was behind the attack? Was it part of the Lulzsec movement?
DrNate86
It was some members from Anonymous if I remember rightly.
colossalblue
It’s never been confirmed but I think the latest speculation was that it was LulzSec who got into Sony Pictures. Anon were blamed for the PSN hack but at that time LulzSec members were mostly in Anon, I think.

Found a website which detailed how over 20 (TWENTY) recent Sony hacks were done (except the PSN hack) most of them its just SQL injections or XSS from out of date OS’s or software. If Sony’s security guy had paid attention on day 1 at school he would have learnt to press the update button, obviously not that simple, but not that far off.
Sony should protect their IP, but they also should protect their systems, particularly one’s which hold customer data.

Be careful what you read.
I found a website that detailed how the lizard people rule the world as shapeshifters.
Doesn’t mean it’s true.

This site is.
The US Dept Of Homeland Security has labelled most website hacks avoidable through simply protecting against SQL Injection.
I’d have expected a company proclaiming to take protection of customer details extremely seriously to know this.

Also, doesn’t mean it’s a lie! ALL HAIL THE LIZARD PEOPLE! :P
