Rumours Suggest WIP Build Of Gears 3 Has Leaked

According to a thread over on GAF, a work-in-progress build of Epic’s Gears of War 3 has leaked.

Apparently it’s just the first few campaign levels and a very buggy multiplayer, and only runs on developer machines, so it’s not nearly as bad as it could have been, but with the game not out until September this can’t be good news for Epic and Microsoft.

I actually sat in a room with Cliff Bleszinski at E3 whilst he played through the first level of Gears – he’s a genuinely nice chap and this must a real sting for the guy.

Our advice?  If you value a clean, spoiler-free run through of the game when it hits in a few months, stay away from the likes of YouTube for a bit – some people are also already uploading videos to N4G, too, but I’m not ruining the game by checking…

    I’d be really frustrated if a game I badly wanted was ruined for me, It’s just as well that GeoW3 isn’t one.

      only an xbox game?! if u think its “only” an xbox game then u surly doesnt know much about the game! the gears series brought a new kinda gameplay and experience to the world of gaming! its partly because of the gears games that so many people have 360s… and i fully respect them, Gears of War 1 and 2 is awesome games…

      • The guy has past history of posting comments that’re mere trolling or flame-baiting, two types of comments that’re discouraged.

      • Although I see what you are saying about there not being a need for a huge string of replies (which is very true), I would also argue that such comments should be discouraged so as not to allow the comments section to fall to such a level on any type of regular basis because if they did, then many people who have some really interesting and thoughtful opinions would feel put off from commenting. We very rarely have those type of comments here and we don’t want to suddenly start allowing them just because other places do.

      • I find it ironic that you make a criticism that members aren’t being on topic when you have done the same mistake more than once on this page. Also, I do not consider burying your head in the sand and hoping the problem will go away a viable tactic at all. FattyUK, from what I’ve heard, has been more than once privately over his actions, something which I’ll leave to the admins and community manager of this site to deal with. As well as that, if anyone has a negative opinion of a game, that’s fine, as long as they have a valid reason (e.g I’m not interested in the game/ It not the sort of game I like). Finally, I’ve noticed you’ve said the same thing over and over again on this page, which could be seen as an attempt by less incompetent people at starting off a full-blown argument. As far as I care, the matter is over and that is the end of it.

        You see, this is how predictable this is. I was anxiously waiting for you to say that. I actually have a valid reason for my point. My point is you all can’t ignore one simple comment. Had I not said anything, a lot of morons may have carried on, but then again, an honest mistake by me. As there is always gunna be people like you replying to me in some sort of chain reaction. So I was getting that across. I’ve only done this once, and most likely will not do it again. Why? Its because I’ve already made my point. But you and others just do the same thing over and over.

        Actually, yes. It is a good tactic. Its simple. If nobody replied to the guys comment, non of this would have happened.

        P.S I’ve made comments on this site before saying, for example, how I hate COD. Then I give a valid reason as to why I hate COD. Simply voicing my opinion, then some morons will reply back saying how I shouldn’t be reading said article about a game I hate. See the ignorance there? don’t get me wrong. This is my favourite gaming site. But 80% of the community on here really are quite ignorant (what’s the bet I get a response on this by someone?)

    • You are right iAvernus, the thing with trolls is it’s built in their DNA to annoy and they do it very well. Often to the point that people feel so enraged by the words that they reply and make themselves look bad in the process.

  5. I don’t understand why people would actually want to play this (the work in progress version, not the full game)…

    Surely it just ruins the experience for them?
    I understand that some games are hotly anticipated, but if they were to make say Inception 2, would you download the first 30 minutes of it if it leaked onto the net?

    Does not compute! (for me at least) :S

  6. Heavily opinionated comments aside, I’m one of the people who only owns a 360 for Gears. If I could get it on PC or PS3 I wouldn’t own the machine. That’s how good it is. Roll on September 20th so I can own the (genuine, finished & legal) 3rd one! :)

  7. I only played gears one, the entire campaign in Co-op with a friend on a borrowed xbox, thought it was really fun, especially the sky laser thing, hammer of dawn, was it? It sucks when people spoil games. There is no point, it’s not the finished product, so it wont be quality, and, I personally can’t see how they can make gains from it by uploading it to youtube..

  9. it’s a shame this kind of thing happens.
    i think what they have to do now if find out how this got out, it’s not like this was a widely available retail copy, this was a version that would normally never make it to the public, i would assume so anyway.
    if they were smart they’d have markers hidden in the code somewhere that differ depending on who that copy of the code was given to, i’ve heard that developers use that to find out who pirates early copies of games.
    would they have implemented something this early though?

    i’ve never been a big fan of the gears games, they’re great games but they’re just not my kind of games, and i’ve had my gripes with blezinski at times, but it’s clear epic have put in a lot of work on these titles, you gotta give them kudos for that when many devs just phone in sequels, and they don’t deserve something like this.

    i never did manage to finish the first game, those bloody brumaks, i think, outside the mansion level where you trying to escape always blood killed me.

  10. Terrible. I suppose only really sad people who can’t wait will be looking into this, but it’s still rubbish that some scum bag has uploaded a WIP copy of the game. Ohh well, I’ll just be steering clear of any Gears 3 videos then.
