Does it get more official than a confirmation from Shuhei Yoshida, Sony’s President of Worldwide Studios? Probably not. Which is why his Tweet yesterday locking down the PS Vita as being region free makes this particular author at least very excited indeed. Especially as the 3DS isn’t, for reasons only Nintendo know.
I bought my first PSP from Japan, importing it over the net, and I’m hopefully going to do the same with Vita as I know someone out in Japan who’s been kind enough to put down a pre-order.
Until then, let us know if you’re planning to import one, or are preferring to wait for the European/American releases at some point next year. If you are importing, let me know which games – I could do with a few suggestions from the list. I’m looking at Uncharted, Ridge Racer, Little Deviants and Everybody’s Golf.

Waiting for the EU release myself, did have a Japanese PSP but like another poster, the swapped x/o buttons drove me mad ;)
I suspect I’ll be waiting anyway, things to do first!

Being region-free is a handy bonus, especially if you’re thinking of importing. I’ll probably wait a bit though. There’s bound to be a few more titles available by the time it launches in europe.

I’m going to wait for the European release as I currently have a DS lite I want to exchange in stores but cannot as it was bought in Australia and they won’t take it. Don’t want to put myself in the same position in future.

Not surprising tbh. I won’t be importing one. Mostly due to the fact of warranty etc like someone else said above. Other things as well but this being the main one.

unsurprising, but still don’t see point in getting on release. battery life and only one game i’m interested in (Uncharted) still don’t sell it for me. I’m gone wait until the 2nd generation Vita.
