The Team Ico Collection releases this Friday – review here – and one of the treats on the disk is some new footage of The Last Guardian, the studio’s next game.
Yes, the frame rate’s a little dodgy in places and there’s not a huge amount of new footage, but – damn – this looks like it’s going to be every bit as good as their last two games.
That lighting is incredible and the animation is sublime, although it’s a little bit odd hearing developers talking about the power of PS3 compared to PS2 like it’s 2007 all over again.
We can’t wait.

Whilst SotC was great, it was a little repetitive and didn’t have the character engagement of Ico, which was fantastic. Fortunately it looks like The Last Guardian is leaning more towards Ico than SotC, which I’m both grateful and uber excited about!

Couldn’t agree more with you on this. Shadow was stunning in the end but felt a little bit of a chore getting there, ICO is still my favorite out of the two…but there’s no denying that both games have stunning atmosphere :)

Yup, totally agree. The lack of direction in Ico was great, I think I was stuck in the first room for like 5 minutes!
Ico is also one of my wife’s favourite games, and that’s saying something! :)

Picked up my Team Ico collection this morning, just booting up Ico now after playing about 3 hours of Shadow. Beautiful games, just sublime. Might go looking for this footage after the first save point.

They’re well worth the money, though I must say the platforming elements really are dated, it’s still easy enough when you work it all out but I did die half a dozen times in Shadow; mostly from falling off cliffs, Colossi, and getting stepped on.

Im getting Team ICO tomorrow (or today if lucky) but I’ve never played ICO. Is it worth playing that first even though I’m rediculously excited about playing SOTC?

Ah, I watched this video and said “wow… even seeing this makes me face tingle with excitement”. I’m in utter awe of what these guys have done (and continue to do). Japanese folk are so incredibly humble as a people and it’s just so beautiful to see what they’re conjuring and how people sit there in child-like fascination, hanging on their every word and gesture.
