Whilst everyone’s gearing up for PS Vita, a new entry has sideswiped the entire industry – SNK have put their branding behind the return of the Neo Geo Pocket.
So, whilst it’s not a true Neo Geo machine, as you can see, it looks absolutely gorgeous. And whilst you can’t play Golden Abyss on it, it does come with a pile of games built in, plus some generous storage capabilities as standard.
The twenty games included are the North American versions (and are therefore in English) and are:
It’s got a 4.3″ screen, two sets of triggers, a beautifully designed case (with obvious iPhone styling) which measures 170 x 72 x 15mm and a 2200mAh battery.
There’s an SD card slot for (we presume) expansion and more games, so hopefully we’ll find out more about just what this thing can do and play.

Looks like a 3DS, and already beats Vita by having L2/R2 buttons.

The touch pad/screen can have the same use as physical R2/L2 buttons. On topic this thing does look quite nice. Hopefully it will be affordable.

The touch screen can’t replace shoulder buttons, unless it’s on a shoulder…

Also, they should be reversed. L1 is the big one on the left side but then R1 is the small one. That’s not great design. But I was referring to the back touch panel as well which could easily replicate shoulder buttons (but obviously not as well).

I’ll await news of the inevitable “you’ve nicked our design” lawsuit from Apple. :-)

It’s scary that this is the first thing I thought, even before thinking about how awesome it could be and how much I want one.
Screen looks less likely to crumble like a digestive biscuit though.

Looks very nice. Any news on cost? Looks also ripe for a nice hack or two to become a retro emulator gaming device…

The NeoGeo Station games selection on the store for PSP is pretty big, it probably has most of those games, although they aren’t cheap on the store!
