EA Receiving ‘Thousands Of Anti-Gay Letters’

Ah, so that’s why Electronic Arts are the worst company in America, they’ve been snuggling up to the gays.

GamesIndustry.Biz reports that “several thousand” letters and emails protesting at the inclusion of same sex or LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) content in various games including latest mega-smash Mass Effect 3.

Letters have been sent to many members of EA’s executive team and there are threats to boycott their games. Some of the letters suggest EA has been pressured into adding gay relationships to its games and the company is ‘forcing’ children to be exposed to the content.

Most of the letters come from Florida where the Florida Family Association has set up an email campaign as it is possible in Star Wars: The Old Republic to create “Darth RuPaula, a combination of Darth Vader, one of the most popular Star Wars characters, and RuPaul, the renown transgender cross dresser.”

Got to laugh, haven’t you?

Electronic Arts issued the following statement:

“EA has not been pressured by any groups to include LGBT characters in our games. However, we have met with LBGT groups and sponsored industry forums to discuss content and harassment of players in online forums. In short, we do put options for same-sex relationships in our games; we don’t tolerate hate speech on our forums.”

The FFA say “There were no LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) characters in any of the Star Wars movies.” Perhaps not, but they seem to have overlooked Ziro The Hutt, Jabba’s rather gay uncle who appeared in The Clone Wars, a TV show for children.

Also, C3-PO – come on, obvious or what?

Of course it would help if any of the content that people are protesting about is erotic. It’s not, it’s about as exciting as two Ken dolls trying to get jiggy.

And now a gallery showing off the Florida Family Association’s best photoshop skills, a letter EA received and a pic of Ziro The Hutt working the ‘feathers behind the ear’ look.

You go girl.

  1. “Most of the letters come from Florida” This explains it. Christians from the deep south :P

In all seriousness though, this is ridiculous. The game has an age rating of 18+ for a reason and I don’t see how having LGBT scenes should be a problem anyway. These parents who say the are having their kids “subjected” to these scenes are basically admitting they purchase 18+ rated games for their children. Surely that is a problem worth dealing with? Some people just look for an excuse to complain.

  2. Sigh.. I’m at a loss for words, I don’t know why I’m surprised though..

    Also, I didn’t even know Kaidan was bi-sexual :o!
    That’s how obvious it’s being portrayed…

  3. This is certainly a absurd group of complaints.
I thought we lived in a tolerable society but clearly we don’t (at least not all of us)

It disturbs me to think of how the next 20 years will be, if we will ever decide that some people are just different and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Also, how is adding a third option (as it were) to a game a good enough reason to boycott it? it does not seem that reasonable.

  4. Disturbing how some people wear their prejudices proudly like a badge.

  5. What’s the media without your regular calendar month gay bash?
I mean. Come. On! *snaps fingers*

  6. Flipping heck. I think some people need to find a hobby or two and stop worry about what goes on in fictional characters bedrooms.

  7. Bit off topic but I was watching that 10 O’Clock live the other day where David Mitchell was talking about gay marriage with Boy George and Milo Yiannopoulos, a gay Catholic spokesman.
I was interested in how he deals with being gay and strongly religious but it transpired that he basically hates himself because of what he is.
It made me want to cry that you have Boy George, a happy, outgoing, funny and erudite gay man explaining how he loves being gay and would even choose it if such a choice were possible yet next to him, a self-loathing guy trying to discuss why homosexuality exists but shouldn’t be supported and no-one would WANT to be gay.

Religion did that to him. His stupid religion makes him resent what he is and it makes people write these stupid complaints to a company that has a healthy modern attitude to sexuality.

    • I hate religion FULL STOP

    • Nothing wrong with religion and Christianity is not stupid.

    • Two options:
      1. God exists, and that means God created homosexuality. And that means homosexuals aren’t evil.
      2. God does not exist, evolution created homosexuality. (Probably because it turns out to be a benefit for the tribe as a whole and thus any genetic component is carried on indirectly)

  8. Me and the bf were at our friends CP/wedding at the weekend. Was mainly a family thing with a lot of kids. These kids didn’t have an issue as they saw two happy people. It’s only when adults start imposing their views onto them do they see anything as wrong. The whole agreement is based on one side being fixated on what goes on in the bedroom. They seem to forget that love is the most important thing not anything else.

    • I remember when people complained about that presenter on CBeebies who only has one arm. They said their kids were upset and crying etc until a child psychologist on TV explained that kids of that age are still building an understanding of the world, they haven’t been exposed to enough to have formed an opinion of what is ‘normal’ so someone with one arm is just as normal as a big black and white four legged animal mooing.

People ‘use’ their kids as a bargaining chip in their argument and that is disgusting.

      • This. I remember these complaints as well and it’s ridiculous to suggest that you kids are scared of someone with one arm. They will be curious and may ask you sure but scared? No. My kids are fine with it and I am fine with it. It’s only people who want to complain for the sake of it that need to take a look at themselves because clearly they are not ‘normal’

  9. They must had a gay ol time with all the time wasted complaining, jeeeez its a bit sad that people would bother to do this.

    • but that’s the worst thing about these people, often they do actually get results.
they write to advertisers in their thousands and get advertising pulled because a program might feature gay content, or even when a transgender person appears on some dancing with the stars program.

      and the advertisers just cave.

it’s the ultimate in hypocrisy they accuse so many other of “pushing the gay agenda”
when it’s their pathetic bigoted agenda that’s getting pushed

      • also, it seem sony are one of those advertisers who pulled ads because of homosexual content.

        what a great company.

        for balance, so did ms.

      • Here here Hazel

  10. That’s just disgusting. As a heterosexual, I have no problems with people if they’re straight, gay or bisexual. That’s their own life choice to make. This is just pure and simple homophobia brought on by people who don’t seem to care about the rights of others. It’s absolutely appaling.
