Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown Release Date Announced

SEGA has announced the release date for Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown. The game will make its console debut on June 5th for PSN and June 6th for XBLA for $14.99/ £9.99/ AUD$18.25/ €12.99 and 1,200 Microsoft Points.

Customization packs for all 19 characters will launch alongside the game for $4.99/ £3.59/ AUD$6.25/ €4.49 and 400 MS Points each. SEGA will also release two bundle packs, one with items for nine characters and the other with items for ten characters, for $14.99/ £9.99/ AUD$18.25/ €12.99 and 1,200 Microsoft Points. That’s quite pricey for DLC but at least the game itself is pretty cheap. It is worth noting that there are 600-950 customization items in each pack. That’s over 14,000 different items, which is crazy.

If you haven’t been keeping up with the series, Final Showdown is the latest version of Virtua Fighter 5. When the game was released for the PS3 back in 2007, it did not include an online mode. The Xbox 360 port released later that year was based on a refined build of the game and featured online multiplayer. There have been a few more revisions of the game since then, but only for arcades. For instance, in addition to balance changes, Virtua Fighter 5R added two new characters to the roster – Jean Kujo and VF3’s Taka-Arashi.

The console version of VF5: Final Showdown does have some new content as well. The game includes a highly detailed training mode, online multiplayer with support for up to eight players in a lobby, and the ability to save and upload replays of your matches.

To say I’m excited about this game would be an understatement. Here is some gameplay from Shadowloo Showdown 2k12, a recent fighting game tournament in Melbourne, Australia.

  1. Can’t wait for this, It’s been years since I played a VF game – the last one was VF4 on PS2!

  2. Trophies? At that price it’s very, very tempting.

    • I don’t see why it wouldn’t have trophies. I think a list leaked awhile back.

  3. Awesome price, Virtua Fighter is brilliant at least Sega released the updated version for consoles. The fact that it is digital rather than the soon to be dead boxed media market makes this a impulse.

  4. Played every version so far and I’ll pick this up on day one – easily my favourite fighting series.

  5. £9.99, what a bargain! Think I’ll have to pick this up when it’s out.
