We don’t often post more than one or two of these feature highlight reels or developer diaries or any of the other promotional series that publishers put together to drip feed a game into your lives in the months before its release. But it’s really quiet today and I’m both excited about PES and quite bored. So here it is, the second part of the introducing PES series.
This instalment is all about what happens on the pitch, it shows off the tactical play and more fluid movement than previous versions of PES. Not sure about that little arrow though… and the split second shot of Pirlo scoring a penalty is a bit cheeky.

That looks a lot more fluid, as you mentioned, than previous versions. I used to be a 100% PES fan but switched allegiances this gen of consoles when Konami really messed up the PS3 versions… I’m not totally convinced that I’ll be moving back in to the PES camp just yet.

I’m in exactly the same boat as you – used to be a real die-hard PES fan but they lost me to FIFA several years ago.
I want to love them again though, I really do.

I’ve always loved FIFA, even back in the day when everyone said PES was obviously better. But after FIFA the brilliance that was FIFA09 and the almost identi-kit FIFA10 I decided to go for PES2011 rather than FIFA11 and I thought it was amazing, it made a real change and there’s such depth in the management career mode thans to the coaching training & the on-the-pitch action made a nice change too.
Then I came back to FIFA for FIFA12 and it is of course excellent, but I’ll be returning to PES for PES2013, alternating like this means that I feel the real benifits of all the enhancements, everything said about FIFA13 seems like it’s another incremental update rather than anything ground-breaking like FIFA09 & FIFA12, which is fine as FIFA12 is amazing, but by swapping franchises I think I’ll get the best of bother worlds each time and will benefit from real tangible enhancements rather than incremental ones.

If you do buy a football game each & every year, i think what cc is doing is actually quite sensible. By the time you have picked up the next in the series (although it wouldn’t be the next as you would have skipped one), there should be enough updates to the title to warrant a new purchase.

I have a mate that just buys FIFA every couple of years because he isn’t bothered about authenticity with the kits, that way he can actually appreciate the differences EA make which isn’t always obvious from year to year.
Swapping between PES and FIFA is a real good idea actually, but i’d be wary of missing out on say a brilliant PES one year because you bought FIFA that year and vice-versa, if that makes any sense. I’ll always buy both because I like to play FIFA for the realistic manager mode and brilliant online clubs, but I play PES for the sheer fluidity and realism of the actual gameplay, I love MLO too.

I see what you mean about the little arrows, not my cup o tea

I like the arrows; gives you some feedback – im sure there will be an option to turn them off. However I think they will be vital as it looks like 360 degree passing which you will have to be quite accurate. generally looking forward to this.
MICKY17
That looked really good and those arrows dont look too distracting. Looks like PES again for me this year.
Sympozium
I remember when old football games used to have arrows. anyway I think it would be helpful for manual controls the look is questionable; too basic but its alright.

I wish people would give PES a chance this year, 2012 was actually quite good, alot better than 10 and 11. I’m hoping that they can attract enough attention to put up a fight this year, although sadly, it seems unlikely. People see to want realistic kits over realistic gameplay. Shame.

I’m actually quite enjoying 10 at the moment tbh (picked it up for 48p not expecting much from it) – Don’t quite get what i am doing with Master League, so i won’t be called up for England squad duty any time soon, but it plays well enough.
Probably equal to Fifa in my opinion? More goalmouth scrambles & less set-pieces though. Perhaps its just the way i play.
fs
Yeah 10 wasn’t bad as I remember but 12 has definetely come along since then. FIFA 10 was pretty poor actually that year I think, FIFA 09 and FIFA 11 were both better games, 10 seemed to revert backwards towards FIFA 08 that year. PES has been moving forward slowly for a while now, along time since the horror of PES 08, jesus christ that was poor.
Master League is one of the only things they have kept since the good old days of PES 4, 5 and 6, it’s good in 09, 10 but rubbish in 11 and 12 if im honest, & Yes goalmouth scrambles, goal line clearences and last minute goals pretty much defines PES on the harder difficulties. Against the Computer anyway.

PES has the best crowd atmosphere i have seen in a football game. Its just a shame the gameplay is just not as good as fifa’s this gen
OnlineAssassin77
That looks like the best PES ive seen for a while ISS on ps1 now those where the days!
blast71
ISS was the reason i paid £200 (i think) for a ps1, MAGICAL MEMORIES!
OnlineAssassin77
Oh yes magical memories indeed chief many a happy hour spent with the old grey box and ISS.

yawn, looks like every football game has done for the last 5 -10 years. I will eat my hat it this or fifa doesn’t go subscription within 2 seasons

I love pes, but not sure about direction arrows.
It reminds me of a fps with an enforced crosshair, i’m more than capable without them, plus it lowers emersion effect for me. Hoping arrows are removable.
