Sony’s stock is rising on the New York Stock Exchange, and has been in considerable steps since the middle of last week, as shown above.
Does this mean somebody knows something we don’t? Is the company really poised to announce the newly revised CECH-4000 model around the corner?
Of course, this doesn’t have to relate to Sony’s Computer Entertainment, other arms of the company had a good showing at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin recently where they showed off their 4k technology and some really great mirrorless cameras.
It could even be related to the iPhone 5. So perhaps not PlayStation-related but it’s encouraging to see, amid all the gloomy financial news, isn’t it?

Pardon me if this is a silly question (i’m not too clued up on this), but what does the iPhone 5 have to do with Sony’s shares? Do Sony help manufacture apple products?
Taylor Made
Yep apple iPhone is made out of LG screens, Sony antena’s (not 100% sure) but I know Sony provides for apple.
Samsung used to do the screens but after that 1bill incident apple are now dealing with LG for next iPhone

Sony can make components for it
Sony trade in a tech market along with companies like Apple, Microsoft, Google and others who all have new huge products in the pipeline. In particular there’s a lot of hype around Apple, so investors will be investing not only in Apple themselves, but also funds that contain Apple to spread their risk around a bit, which may have some positive impact if Sony are also in those investment funds. Apple’s hype in the markets can be the tide that lifts all ships.

I never knew it was that complicated. I’m glad i dont understand the stock market though, I’m bad enough on fruities!

@mcproley Sony are making the camera I think.
McProley
Ah, ok. Thanks :)

Far from great year to date. This weeks rise brings it almost back into line with its relativly low ‘highs’ of the past month, although it’s still 4% on even that so it’s not quite cigars time.
This short upward trend kind of mirrors a slight upward trend with the Dow Jones as a whole, so it’s almost certain that Sony is merely following the rest of the market as goodwill comes to the tech sector ahead of tomorrow’s iPhone announcement, this is kind of carried out by Sony’s rise this week mirroring the NYSE Tech100 which trachs tech related companies listed on that exchange.
Of course selling off old inventory as they have been doing and a new SKU on the horizon should cause some positive reactions in the market but unless Sony as a whole can get its house in order I don’t think PlayStation alone can contribute to an uplift

Nice to see some good SONY News for once after SONY’s last years bad luck. But i am sure the haters(mainly found online & on gaming sites) will find pointless problems to try & bring SONY down again…YAWN :-/

I kinda want PS4 to be 8K. I was reading about the Sony 8K camera in work and can’t wait to see one. We’ve had a 4K screen in work for ages (cinema one) so I await 8K with bated breath.

New hardware announcement at TGS? I can’t see just a new version of the PS3 leading to this.
gazzagb
Although this is ‘Sony’, so I guess that includes everything like Sony Pictures, Music etc, not just their Entertainment division.

google the new cine alta f65 camera ;) demolishing the competition.

I’d say it’s far more likely to be related to the new announcements expected in the next few days at Photokina in Germany ( big euro photo show), Sony are reportedly piling vast sums of cash, expectation and hope on their imaging division- new high- end SLT and mirror-less cameras are aimed at grabbing a larger share of the market.
