We’ve lost track of when The Last Guardian was first announced, it was so long ago. And, sadly, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be out any time soon. Speaking to French site JeuxVideo, Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment, couldn’t even make the promise that the game will land in 2013.
“Can you confirm for our readers that the game will arrive well next year on PS3?” asked the site. “No, sorry, I can not say that,” came the reply, translated over at NeoGAF. “Because the last time we talked about a date for The Last Guardian, we finally disappointed many people. But I can tell you that the team is working hard on the project, including the engine. It is precisely because the teams working on the technical aspect of the game that we have nothing concrete to show you today.”
“So now I’m waiting for the right time to introduce you to The Last Guardian and speak with confidence of a release date.”
It’s been assumed for a little while, at least here at TSA, that the game will end up being a PS4 launch title, rather than landing on the system it was originally intended for. Team Ico have hit numerous development difficulties, and the exit of key staff has left a few wondering whether it’ll even make it out at all. It will, of course, but if it’s not next year then surely it’s next-gen…
