Microsoft issued a statement earlier in the week confirming a total of 750,000 Xbox 360s shifted across the US-based Black Friday sale weekend. Sony, meantime, remained stoic and silent.
Until today, when they pushed out their own figures which actually aren’t that bad at all. Well, you’ll need to combine the PS3 and the PS Vita to get anywhere close to Microsoft’s numbers, but still.
The numbers? 525,000 PlayStation 3s, and 160,000 PlayStation Vitas. That’s over the week, from the 18th of November through to the 24th. The platform holder said that’s a growth of 9% over last year, if you factor in software and peripherals alongside the console.
“We’re very pleased with the Black Friday sales results, especially the incredible reception for the PS3 and PS Vita bundles,” said Jack Tretton. “The demand was very strong which quickly depleted our inventory across retailers nationwide.”
“The PlayStation brand generated significant revenue and year-over-year growth at retail because of our focus on what gamers love most in combining amazing hardware with great games and digital entertainment.”
The Vita in particular saw some massive price reductions on Amazon, no doubt contributing to these figures significantly.

The high tide of Black Friday has floated all ships then.
Someway short of Nintendo’s combined 1.2m sales & Microsoft’s sales of the 360, its only model on the market though, but presumably a nice & welcome uplift all the same.

Considering the strength of the 360 on home soil, the PS3 did fantastically well. Especially with the PS+ sign-ups. The percentage increase on that was superb.

My folks are in the States at the moment, so got them to pick me up the AC:L bundle. £130 for the (unavailable in the UK to my knowledge) white Vita, AC:L, a download code for Battle Royale and a 4Gb memory card… These are the sorts of deals that Sony needs to continue to promote to maintain the noticable momentum that the console has developed over the past month. Keep the PS+ deals rolling, keep promoting good value bundles and then announce some killer new games (I’d be happy with Vita specific versions of established IPs) early in the new year.

Cool:P + that cr*p site ‘vgchartz’ said(on the Weekly Hardware Charts) that it was only 395,961?!?! & of course the Xbox 360 was 838,643?!?!(funny that is over in’it) :D That is why i NEVER & will NEVER trust anything gaming sites say LoL:D + Just think what a 12GB PS3 at say $149 would have of done on that week in the US to. What a shame someone at SONY decided not to bring it out in the US :-/

That’s not bad considering America is Xbox territory well and truly. What would have really helped is if The Last Of Us was released instead of being delayed :/ most of my friends at uni who own an Xbox or just not a PS3 really want it.
