Microsoft Exec: “Majority Of UK consumers Won’t Know” About PS4 Reveal Next Week

This is glorious. Speaking to trade magazine MCV last week, Microsoft exec Jon Grimes claimed that “the majority of UK consumers won’t know” about “whatever gets announced on February 20,” referring to the hugely anticipated (and highly probable) reveal of the PlayStation 4.

Except, well, by saying that there’s an ever bigger chance that everyone in the UK will know, because this story’s spreading across the UK gaming press like wildfire this morning.

“Our job is not to get lost in the industry chatter, but to ensure that the consumers going into stores, going online, still experience Xbox,” said Grimes. “The announcement is important for the industry, but it is also important to remember who is buying right now.”

“What has got us to where we are today is not going to be what gets us through the next ten years. Now we’ve also got to start from scratch when thinking about the future. Driving creativity, whether around marketing, retail or new business models, is key for us,” he added.

Sorry, we’re all thinking about next Wednesday.

TheSixthAxis will be there live from New York, and we’ll be bringing you all the news on whatever it is that Sony are showing first hand, as well as our usual “at home” coverage that you’ve come to love over the years. We’re ready for the next generation – bring it on!

His talking about it just bigs it up even more, no?

  4. I think Sony have emailed just about everyone with a psn id so most will know something and I’m sure it will get a lot of mainstream coverage. I’m betting Charlie Brooker will do something on it for screen wipe too.

once there is actually a picture of ps4 it will flood everywhere, Facebook, twitter etc…

Anyone who is interested about it will know

    • Good point about Charlie Brooker.

  5. Free Advertisement! Thank you Microsoft!

  6. Xbox Experience… buying exclusive rights and pulling devs ears to release games on Xbla first without having to bother investing in interesting new IP <.<

  7. Glad to hear TSA will be there, can’t wait!

  8. My least favourite part of console rivalry is when company execs start spewing rubbish like that. Obviously ms weren’t expecting sonys reveal this soon. I wonder what story they’ll release in Wednesday to try steal the attention?

    • I’d be quite happy having the PS4 delayed for a year if it meant Steve Ballmer being skinned alive in public. That’d be fun.

      • That would certainty steal the headlines if they announced that on Wednesday!

  9. Microsoft still stuck in their bubble i see.

  10. Not to mention GAME will have posters in the window pretty sharply, even with an estimated price on release and looking for your 20 pounds pre-order.
